Chipman set to coach game No. 900 Tuesday against Baker
Three games into his 30th season at Washburn, head coach
Bob Chipman will coach his 900th game on the Ichabods bench as they host Baker at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena Tuesday. Washburn will enter the game at 2-0 while the Wildcats will come in with a 1-4 record and count the contest as an exhibition.
The Ichabods started the year with a pair of wins in the Washburn Classic two weeks ago. They beat Colorado Christian, 75-54 on November 15 and then they beat Central Methodist, 95-73 the next day.
Baker has lost three straight and its lone win came on November 10 at St. Mary.
Lekheythan Malone is Washburn's leading scorer with 18.0 points a game. He opened the year with 24 points against UCO and then he had 12 against CMU.

Bob Chipman is 648-251 in 30 years at Washburn. He will become the eighth person in NCAA II to coach at least 900 games and win at least 600.

Paul Byers is fourth in career blocks at WU with 69. He needs 10 more to move to third.

Ichabods shake off slow start for big win against Baker

Washburn shot 70 percent in the second half to turn a two-point halftime lead into a 40-point win as the Ichabods defeated Baker 97-57.
The Wildcats shot 50 percent in the first half and won the rebound battle 19-17. Despite that advantage, they only led twice in the game, the most being a four-point cushion, 10-6 at the 14:42 mark. With the score tied at 22-22,
James Williams hit two straight 3-pointers late in the first half and then Angel Santiago's lay-up made the score 30-22 at 4:03.
With a two-point lead at halftime, the Ichabods started the second half on a 12-0 run to take a 47-33 lead four minutes in. A jumper from Kyle Snyder gave them a 20-point lead and then
Moriba DeCoteau's basket gave WU a 30-point lead. The Ichabods made it a 40-point game when
Garrett Love scored his first collegiate points with a jumper at the buzzer.
Williams led the Ichabods with 16 points off 5-of-10 shooting and four 3s while Santiago tossed in 12 and Grant Hargett and
Darnell Kimble each had 11.
Paul Byers was 5 of 7 from the field for 10 points.
Mario Scott had a season-high seven assists for WU while Meile chipped in five. Snyder led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Ichabods shot 38 percent in the first half but went 23 of 33 in the second half to finish the game with a 53 percent effort.
The Wildcats shot 44 percent after a 38 percent effort in the second half. Matt Mills led the team with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Five Ichabods reach double figures as they top Eagles to start season 2-0

DeAndre Eggins led five Ichabods in double figures with 20 points as they beat Central Methodist, 95-73 in the final game of the Washburn Classic in Lee Arena.
Eggins made 4-of-9 shots and was 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. LeKheythan Malone made 5-of-10 shots for 12 points while
Mario Scott and
Logan Stutz each scored 11 and
Darnell Kimble had 10.
The Ichabods shot 49 percent as a team while the Eagles shot 40 percent. WU was 72 percent from the free throw line and 47 percent from 3-point range. The Ichabods held a 40-35 lead in rebounding.
WU fell behind 5-0 and didn't lead until the 12:40 mark of the first half when Stutz made a pair of free throws that made the score 22-20.
The Eagles (5-0 with Sunday's game counting as an exhibition for them) rebuilt their lead to five points and held off Washburn until a 29-29 tie at 5:32 on a shot from Malone.
Jeremie Hart's lay-up at 3:42 gave WU a 35-33 lead and they kept it the rest of the game.
Stutz rolled one in in the final minute of the half to put the Ichabods up by 10 and then
Mario Scott hit a shot in the final seconds to give WU a 52-38 halftime lead.
The Eagles cut WU's lead to 13 opening the second half with a free throw, but they never got closer.
A 7-0 run, capped by a lay-up from Kimble at 17:33 gave WU a 20-point lead, and the Ichabods kept their cushion around 20 points the rest of the way.
Kimble led the team with eight rebounds and Scott and William McNeill led with three assists each. McNeill also led with two steals.
Jeff Blauvelt led Central Methodist with 18 points off 9-of-14 shooting.
Chipman coaching game No. 900
Head coach
Bob Chipman will coach his 900th game Tuesday against Baker and he will become the ninth coach to do so and win at least 600 games. Chipman is 648-251 (.721) in his 30th season with Washburn and overall as a coach.
Chipman will become the second active MIAA coach to coach at least 900 games. Missouri Western's Tom Smith has coached 939 games and is 555-386 (.591) in his 33rd year.
Ichabods get big results from DI transfers in opening weekend
Seniors
Lekheythan Malone and
DeAndre Eggins transferred this year from Arkansas-Little Rock and both of them had a big weekend to start the season.
Malone was 8-for-9 in his Washburn debut and 5-for-5 from the 3-point line as he scored 24 points to lead the Ichabods against Colorado Christian on November 15 in the first day of the Washburn Classic. The next day he was 5-of-10 with 12 points against Central Methodist as he averaged 18.0 points a game to start the season. He shot 68 percent during the weekend and 60 percent from the 3-point line. He also pulled in nine rebounds against CCU and 6 against CMU to average 7.5 a game. Malone missed his first shot against Colorado Christian and then made his next eight. He was 2-for-3 in the first half and then 6-for-6 in the second half.
Eggins opened with nine points against CCU and then he led the team with 20 against CMU. He was 4-of-9 against the Eagles and 3-of-5 from the 3-point line. He also made 9-of-12 free throws that game.
Malone leads the team with 18.0 points a game and 7.5 rebounds and Eggins is second on the team with 14.5 points.
Scott returns to point guard position
Junior guard
Mario Scott returns for his second year after playing in all 29 games last year. He was Washburn's starting point guard in 19 of the first 21 games and WU was 12-7 when he started.
Scott has started at the point in both games this year and he's averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 assists. He scored 11 points against Central Methodist off 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and he's had three assists in each of the two games this year.
Byers will enter senior season fourth in blocks
Washburn senior forward
Paul Byers enters his senior year fourth in school history with 69 career blocks. He is 10 away from third and 32 away from tying former assistant coach Ewan Auguste for first in school history with 100.
Byers was second on the team last year as a junior with 20 blocks. He totalled 31 blocks in 2005-06, his freshman season, to lead the team and rank seventh in WU single-season history.
Kimble returns to post position
Senior forward
Darnell Kimble returns for his second year after finishing second on the team last year with 9.4 points a game. He led the team with 15 double-figure scoring games and scored a season-high 16 points three times. Kimble led Washburn with 21 blocks and averaged 0.75 per game. He played in 28 games with 16 starts as a junior last year after transferring from Brown Mackie CC.
This year Kimble has started in the post both games and he's averaging 6.5 points. He scored 10 against Central Methodist with two field goals and a 6-of-8 performance from the free throw line.
Stutz scoring in double figures off the bench for Ichabods
Sophomore forward
Logan Stutz is the leading scorer off the bench for the Ichabods as he's averaging 10.0 points a game. He scored nine in his debut against Colorado Christian and then 11 against Central Methodist with a 4-of-5 performance from the floor that night. He's shooting 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field this year and pulling in 6.0 rebounds a game.
About the Wildcats
The Wildcats enter the game with a 1-4 record. They lost their season-opener November 4 against St. Mary and then went on the road to defeat St. Mary on November 10 for their only win. They have since lost their last three. This match will count as an exhibition for them.
Heath Baird leads the team with 13.2 points a game and Justin Houser (13.0) and Nick Iversen (12.8) follow closely behind.
Iversen is shooting 57 percent (17-of-30) from the field this year and 50 percent from 3-point range (8-of-16). Houser leads with 7.0 rebounds a game.
