The Ichabods had strong performances from numerous players as they opened the exhibition season in a 98-79 loss at defending NCAA Division I national champion Kansas Tuesday night.
The contest was the first of the season for both teams and Washburn will continue preseason play Sunday at Kansas State in a 2 p.m. contest.
Darnell Kimble led the Ichabods with 14 points off 5-of-8 shooting,
DeAndre Eggins had 13 points and
Lekheythan Malone had 11 points and was 3 of 4 from 3-point range.
The Ichabods out-rebounded the Jayhawks 37-36 and
Paul Byers led all players with 10 of them. He also led everyone with three blocked shots.
Kansas shot 61 percent from the field while the Ichabods shot 39 percent.
Jonathan Leopaul was 4 of 4 from the field with nine points and William McNeill and
Mario Scott each added seven.
Jeremie Hart led WU with four assists and he and Scott each had four steals.
Sherron Collins led the Jayhawks with 22 points and was one of four KU players to reach double figures.
