A hot second half for the Ichabods wasn't enough to erase Fort Hays State's hot first half as Washburn fell 69-66 Wednesday night at Lee Arena to the Tigers. The Ichabods fell to 17-9 overall and 9-8 in the MIAA while FHSU jumped to 18-8 and 10-7 in the league. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Washburn and gave the Tigers their own five-game winning streak.

The Ichabods will play their final regular season game of the year at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Central Missouri.

Seniors Kyle Snyder, Grant Hargett, Brady Sisk and Andrew Meile were all honored for their contributions prior to the game during Senior Day ceremonies.

The Ichabods shot 50 percent in the second half and kept FHSU to 36 percent shooting as they tried to erase a five-point halftime deficit.

Snyder's steal and dunk with 3:54 left in the game gave Washburn its first lead since the first half, 60-58. That lead was short-lived as Tyrone Evans hit a 3-pointer on the next possession and then after a tie, he later hit another 3 to give his team a 66-63 lead.

The Tigers went up by five with 1:18 left before Meile hit a 3-pointer on a pass from Mario Scott on the next possession to pull Washburn within two. After a missed shot from FHSU Snyder grabbed the rebound and WU called a timeout. The Ichabods missed their shot on their possession but had a chance to tie the score after FHSU hit just one free throw to go up by three.

With seven seconds left Meile took the inbounds pass and was fouled right away. He missed the first free throw and Paul Byers got the rebound. Meile took a shot at a 3 but missed and the rebound went out of bounds to Washburn with four tenths of a second remaining.

After two timeouts the Ichabods got the ball inbounded but couldn't get off a shot in time as the buzzer sounded.

Sisk led the Ichabods with 19 points, tying his season high set earlier in the year against FHSU. He was 7 of 10 from the field while Snyder was 6 of 9 for 14 points and he added 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Meile had 13 points and three assists as he moved to sixth all-time at WU in career assists.

Darnell Kimble was 5 of 9 from the field for 15 points and Byers led WU with a season-high four assists and pulled in seven rebounds.

The Tigers shot 67 percent from 3-point range in the first half, making 8 of 12 attempts. They finished the game 12 of 23 from long range with Terry Jeffries hitting four and Tyrone Evans hitting three. Jeffries had a game-high 23 points.

The Tigers made three 3s in less than a minute mid-way through the first half. The last in that stretch, a shot by Jake Sims, gave FHSU a 10-point lead, its highest of the game.

Washburn out-shot FHSU 48 percent to 43 percent and pulled in 12 more rebounds. The Tigers made up the difference with a 12-3 advantage on 3-pointers made and by protecting the ball with just seven turnovers. The Ichabods committed 12 turnovers.
