Season Stats

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 24 ranked Washburn Ichabods rolled to an 8-1 win over Emporia State in the tennis version of the Turnpike Tussle. Washburn will be back in action this weekend against St. Cloud State in Maryville, Mo., before returning to MIAA action against Truman on Sunday.

The Ichabods started out the match by sweeping the Hornets in doubles play. Brad Johnston and Nathan Martin won their No. 1 doubles match 8-5. Drew Hanson and Ryan Ward took their match at No. 2, 8-4 and Ryan Ward and Drew Hanson blanked their opponents 8-0.

Washburn won five of the six singles flights with Martin taking a three-set win over Kent Grossling closing out the final set with a 6-4 win. Hanson defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Andrew Plum won at No. 4 6-2, 6-3. Johnston won at No. 5 6-1, 7-6 and Nate Hurd took his match at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3.
