ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Ichabods were swept in an MIAA doubleheader at Missouri Western Saturday, dropping the opener 7-2 and then falling in the second game 7-1. The two teams will complete the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Luis Beltran Lopez had two hits and an RBI in game one and two more hits in game two but the Ichabods totalled just 13 hits and three runs while leaving 16 runners on base during the two games.
Danny Cook suffered the loss in game one as he allowed six runs on nine hits through 5 2/3 innings.
Zach Engelken started the second game and gave up the first five runs, just two earned, as he got the loss. He struck out five while walking three with seven hits.
The Ichabods scored first in game one when
Nick Barnes reached on a throwing error by the catcher and
Dane Simoneau scored. They got one more in the fifth when Lopez drove in
Joe Hosey to put them up 2-1. The Griffons then scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
In game two
Brian Gorges led off the fourth with a single and then scored on Simoneau's single but MWSU scored five unanswere runs to complete the sweep.
