Season Statistics

Each team left the ballpark with a 3-1 win as Truman took game one and Washburn took game two in an MIAA doubleheader Saturday at Falley Field. The two teams will wrap up the series Sunday with a game at noon.

Washburn went to 15-26 and 10-21 on the year while TSU went to 7-36 and 5-24.

Game 1
Box Score

Zach Engelken gave up just three runs on six hits in seven innings of work but got little run support as Washburn scored just once off five hits in a 3-1 loss.

Each team put a run on the board in the first inning as Truman's Luke Crader singled and then later scored on an error and then Washburn's Joe Hosey got a triple in the bottom of the inning and scored on Brian Gorges' infield single.

Washburn got just three more hits the rest of the way and Truman scored once in the third and once in the fourth to get starter Matt Herrick his first win of the year.

Game 2
Box Score

Washburn scored twice in the second and again in the sixth to cushion starter Brett Sorensen as he picked up his team-leading fourth win with a 3-1 victory.

Dane Simoneau and Cameron Kasel hit back-to-back singles in the second inning. Tyler Blankenship drove in Simoneau on a double and then Kasel scored on a wild pitch to give WU an early lead.

Both teams remained scoreless until Washburn added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Simoneau singled and scored on Kasel's double.

Sorensen allowed just three hits through the first six innings. He ran into trouble in the seventh when Joshua Dilday led off and reached on an error. He later scored an unearned run on a single up the middle and then closer Curtis Hamilton came in for Washburn and picked up his fifth save. He pitched to two batters and got a fly out and a ground out.

Sorensen went to 4-4 as he allowed four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Simoneau and Kasel each led Washburn with two hits.
