Ichabods return home to host Missouri Western Saturday in Lee Arena
The Ichabods will return from a three-game road trip hoping to win their second straight game when they host Missouri Western Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Leea Arena. Washburn (11-8) is in a three-way tie for third in the MIAA with a 7-5 record while the Griffons (9-10) are 6-6 in the league and tied for seventh.
Washburn will be looking to avenge a four-point loss at MWSU in December and protect an 8-1 homecourt record. The Griffons are 3-5 on the road and 3-3 in away MIAA games. MWSU is tied with three other MIAA schools with three conference road wins.
Washburn's
DeAndre Eggins is second in the MIAA with 17.7 points a game and he's scored in double figures in 13 straight. NWMSU is led by Hunter Henry, also with 17.9 points a game. Dominique Thuston leads MWSU and is eighth in the MIAA with 15.4 points a game.

Ichabods can't overcome slow start in first MIAA loss

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -
DeAndre Eggins and
Darnell Kimble each scored in double figures and led with nine rebounds each but the Ichabods let Missouri Western score the first 10 points as they fell, 76-72 at MWSU.
With 49 seconds remaining the Griffons led by 11 but Eggins hit three straight 3-pointers, the last with 18 seconds left that pulled WU within three points.
After that the Ichabods committed an intentional foul and then three technicals and MWSU made 7 of 12 free throws in the final 12 seconds. William McNeill and
Steve Feighny each hit 3-pointers near the end but it wasn't enough.
Eggins led with 18 points as he knocked down three 3-pointers and was 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Kimble was 5 of 11 from the field for 11 points.
Lekheythan Malone scored eight points off the bench and McNeill had seven with a team-high three steals.
The Griffons led from start to finish as they opened the game with a 3-pointer that kicked off a 10-0 run. Meanwhile, the Ichabods missed their first six shots before Eggins made a pair of free throws and then
Logan Stutz and McNeill each made lay-ups to make the score 10-6.
The Ichabods got within three in the first half but trailed by eight, 32-24 at halftime. In the second half the Griffons built the lead as high as 14 with 2:14 remaining.
Washburn out-shot MWSU in every aspect. The Ichabods shot 41 percent from the field while MWSU was 36 percent. They held a 50 percent to 40 percent advantage from long range and a 70 percent to 49 percent advantage from the free throw line. WU also held a 52-34 advantage on rebounds.
The Griffons made up for that by taking advantage of 23 WU turnovers while only giving the ball away 13 times.
Missouri Western Series History
• This is the 74th meeting between the two schools and Washburn leads the series, 42-31. The Ichabods are 19-16 against MWSU in MIAA games and 17-8 in Lee Arena.
• The two teams split last year's series with each winning its home game. Washburn has won three straight games against MWSU in Lee Arena.
• Prior to last year's 90-69 win in the series finale, WU has scored exactly 77 points in each of the three previous games.

Ichabods pick up six-point road win at Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods trailed at the half 29-28 but opened the second stanza on a 5-0 run holding Northwest Missouri without a field for the first 4:38 and held the lead the remainder of the game in a 71-65 win over the Bearcats.
The Ichabods built a second half lead to 45-37 as
Nate Daniels scored four straight for Washburn on a tip in and a pair of free throws with 10:05 left. After Northwest cut the lead to five at 45-40, back-to-back 3-pointers for the Ichabods by
James Williams and Daniels put the Ichabods up nine at 51-42 with 9:07 to go in the game.
The Ichabods were led by Kimble who scored 16 points off the bench hitting 7 of 9 attempts from the field. Eggins scored 14 and
Nate Daniels scored a career-high 10 points. Elijah Allen scored 24 to take game honors and recorded a double double with 10 rebounds.
Washburn finished the game shooting 51 percent from the field going 23 of 45 including an 11 of 19 (58 percent) performance in the second half. The Ichabods held the Bearcats to 36 percent shooting. The teams combined for 41 turnovers with the Ichabods recording 24.
Ichabods finish off a three-game road trip with win at NWMSU
Washburn just finished its first of two different three-game MIAA road trips. The Ichabods went 1-2 during the stretch, salvaging the only win Wednesday at Northwest Missouri State. They lost at Nebraska-Omaha and Emporia State.
WU plays another three-game set on the road next month, traveling to Fort Hays State, Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist. Overall, eight of the final 13 games ar e on the road.
Washburn is 2-5 in true road games this year and 2-4 in the MIAA.
DeAndre Eggins leads the Ichabods with 20.8 points a game on the road and
Darnell Kimble is second with 13.0 a game. Washburn shoots 42 percent on the road and averages 73.6 points a game while opponents shoot 43 percent and score 77.4 points.
Ichabods continue dominance at Lee Arena
The Ichabods started the year 6-0 at home and have since gone 2-1 for an 8-1 record at home. Washburn is out-scoring opponents by an average of 84-69 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods shoot 48 percent at home compared to 40 percent in away games.
Lekheythan Malone leads the Ichabods in Lee Arena with 16.3 points a game and he's shooting 56 percent in Lee.
Paul Byers is a 49 percent shooter in home games and he's 47 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
Washburn unbeaten in midweek MIAA games
The Ichabods are 5-0 in midweek MIAA games this year with all the contests happening on Wednesdays. They are 4-0 in Lee Arena and their win Wednesday at NWMSU was their first midweek road trip in the MIAA. Washburn is balanced in the five games with six players averaging 8.0 points or more.
DeAndre Eggins leads with 13.6 a game and overall, Washburn scores 81.0 while opponents score 71.8 a game. WU shoots 49 percent in midweek MIAA games.
