Ichabods host No. 3 Southwest Baptist Wednesday at Lee Arena
The Ichabods will look to rebound from their first home loss when they host third-ranked Southwest Baptist Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Arena. Washburn, 2-1 against ranked teams this year, will be looking to hand the Bearcats their first loss of the year and improve to 7-1 at home.
    
Washburn is 8-5 ovearall and tied for third in the conference at 4-2 after losing to Central Missouri Saturday. The Bearcats are 12-0 and first in the league at 5-0 after a 35-point win at Emporia State Saturday.
    
DeAndre Eggins leads Washburn with 16.7 points a game, fourth in the MIAA and 
Darnell Kimble leads with 6.5 rebounds, seventh in the conference. 
Mario Scott leads with 4.9 assists and that total is second in the league. Matthew Rogers leads the MIAA with 19.9 points a game and he leads the nation with 4.9 blocks a game.
    
Washburn leads the all-time series 26-13 and a WU win near the end of last year snapped a five-game winning streak for SBU in the series. The Ichabods are 14-3 against the Bearcats in Lee Arena.

Meile and Snyder lead Ichabods to win over conference-leading Southwest Baptist

Andrew Meile and Kyle Snyder recorded career-high point totals and Snyder had his second straight double-double as the Ichabods defeated No. 15 Southwest Baptist 71-68. The two seniors combined to shoot 71 percent as Snyder was 8 of 9 for 19 points and Meile was 7 of 12 for 25 points. Grant Hargett also reached double figures with 12 points.
    
After missing his first free throw with 57 seconds left, Meile sunk the next one to give WU a five point lead. The Bearcats answered with a layup from Nick Kovacevich with 40 seconds to pull his team within three points.
    
The Ichabods ran the shot clock down as far as they could on the next possession and 
Paul Byers fired off a shot that missed with six seconds left in the game. After a scramble for the ball he got his own rebound and the Bearcats were unable to foul him before the buzzer sounded.
    
WU answered a poor 35 percent shooting effort in the first half with a 48 percent effort in the second half. The Ichabods ended the night shooting 41 percent while SBU, the MIAA's leading shooting team, shot just 38 percent in the game.
    
The Ichabods led the rebound battle 42-36 behind Snyder's career-high 14, including 10 defensive rebounds. Meile hit a career-high six 3-pointers while Scott led the offense with five assists. Kovacevich led SBU with 15 points off 6-of-13 shooting.
Southwest Baptist Series History
• This is the 40th meeting between these two schools and Washburn leads the all-time series 26-13.
• WU's win last year snapped a five-game losing streak in the series. It was the first win since winning 15 straight against the Bearcats from 1996-97 through 2004-05.
• Washburn is 14-3 against SBU in Lee Arena and 21-8 in MIAA games.
• The series is the least-played matchup for Washburn against other MIAA teams with 39 games played. The second-lowest played series is the 49 games against Nebraska-Omaha.

Lead falls from Ichabods as they lose to Central Missouri
January 3, 2009
Washburn took an eight-point lead in the second half after a tied halftime score but the Ichabods couldn't hold on as they fell, 73-64 to Central Missouri Saturday at Lee Arena.
    
DeAndre Eggins led the Ichabods with 18 points as he was 6 of 12 from the field with three 3-pointers. Lekheyhtan Malone scored 13 points off the bench and 
Paul Byers scored 10 points and tied 
Mario Scott for the team lead with seven rebounds.
    
Washburn shot 40 percent in the game and UCM shot 42 percent. WU was out-rebounded 42-38.
    
Each team shot 16 free throws and UCM made 12 and WU made 10. The Ichabods were 6 of 19 from 3-point range while UCM was 5 of 18.
    
After a 32-32 score at halftime the Ichabods built an eight-point lead in the first eight minutes of the half. The Mules erased that lead with a 13-2 run that made the score 52-49, UCM. Washburn led briefly after that and kept the game close until the Mules made 9 of 9 shots from the free throw line in the final 54 seconds to pull away.
    
Scott led WU with four assists and two steals and Eggins had two of WU's six blocks.
    
Joe Young led the Mules with 24 points off the bench and he made seven of UCM's final nine free throws.
Ichabods look to rebound after first home loss and regain dominance at Lee Arena
The Ichabods started the year 6-0 at home before falling Saturday against Central Missouri. Overall, Washburn is 6-1 in Lee Arena this year and out-scoring opponents by an average of 84-67. The Ichabods shoot 49 percent at home compared to 42 percent on the road in away and neutral-site games.
    
Lekheythan Malone leads the Ichabods in Lee Arena with 16.1 points a game and he's shooting 57 percent in Lee. Away from home he averages 10.3 points while shooting 36 percent. 
Paul Byers is a 51 percent shooter in home games and he's 48 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
    
DeAnre Eggins, the third-leading free throw shooter in the MIAA at .802 from the line, actually shoots better on the road. He is an 84 percent shooter in away and neutral games and a 76 percent shooter at home (both home and away totals lead the team).
    
Overall, the Ichabods shoot 49 percent at home and 42 percent away from home. They are out-scored 77-78 while on the road.
Chipman coached game No. 900 November 25
Head coach 
Bob Chipman coached his 900th game November 25 against Baker and he became the eighth coach to do so and win at least 600 games. Chipman is 654-256 (.719) in his 30th season with Washburn and overall as a coach.
    
Chipman is the second active MIAA coach to coach at least 900 games. Missouri Western's Tom Smith has coached over 940 games.
Eggins has reached at least 18 points in each of last six games
Senior guard 
DeAndre Eggins is leading the team with 16.7 points a game after he averaged 20.5 a game in the last six games. During that stretch he is shooting 45 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free throw line. He has scored 20 or more points in three of those games and hasn't scored below 18. He set his season high with 25 points on December 17 against BYU-Hawaii in the Hoop N Surf Classic. He's also averaging 6.2 rebounds in those six games.
   
Eggins has reached double figures in nine of the 13 games this year and he's led the team in scoring in eight of the games. Washburn is 5-0 when he scores at least 20 points.
Byers fourth in blocks, three away from third
Washburn senior forward 
Paul Byers is fourth in school history with 76 career blocks. He is three away from third and 24 away from tying former assistant coach Ewan Auguste for first in school history with 100.
    
Byers was second on the team last year as a junior with 20 blocks. He totalled 31 blocks in 2005-06, his freshman season, to lead the team and rank seventh in WU single-season history.
    
He has eight blocks this year.
    
Byers has scored in double figures in six of the 12 games this year. He set a career high December 3 against Nebraska-Omaha with 26 points as he shot 10 of 14 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range. He also had eight rebounds and three assists that game. He's averaging 10.0 points a game this year and shooting 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range. He is third on the team with 5.1 rebounds.
Kimble remains strong in post position
Senior forward 
Darnell Kimble has 20 blocks this year and he started the week second in the MIAA with 1.5 a game. He is now 12th in WU career history with 41 blocks and he's five away from 10th.
    
He is third on the team with 11.9 points a game and first with 6.5 rebounds.
    
Kimble had his first career double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds against Chaminade on December 18 in the Hoop N Surf Classic. His seven offensive rebounds and eight defensive rebounds were also career highs.
    
Kimble set four career highs November 29 against Southwestern Oklahoma in the UCO Thanksgiving Classic. He had 29 points, topping 20 for the first time in his WU career. He made 11 field goals with 17 attempts and he blocked four shots.
    
Kimble returns for his second year after finishing second on the team last year with 9.4 points a game. He led the team with 15 double-figure scoring games and scored a season-high 16 points three times. Kimble led Washburn with 21 blocks and averaged 0.75 per game. He played in 28 games with 16 starts as a junior last year after transferring from Brown Mackie CC.
Malone playing off the bench in last four, still a strong contributor
Senior forward 
Lekheythan Malone started the first nine games for Washburn and averaged 15.3 points a game and shot 53 percent. He has since came off the bench in the last four games and is averaging 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds.
    
Malone has reached double figures in eight of the 13 games this year and Washburn is 6-2 when he does so. Malone had his first double-figure game off the bench Saturday against Central Missouri with 13 points.
    
He has scored 20 or more points in three games this year and he had his first double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds against Northwest Missouri December 6. Washburn is 3-0 when he scores 20 or more.
    
Overall, Malone is second on the team with 13.5 points a game and 5.8 rebounds. He shoots 48 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 67 percent from the free throw line.
    
He was 8 for 9 in his Washburn debut and 5 for 5 from the 3-point line as he scored 24 points to lead the Ichabods against Colorado Christian on November 15. Malone missed his first shot against Colorado Christian and then made his next eight. He was 2 for 3 in the first half and then 6 for 6 in the second half.
    
Malone transferred this year from NCAA Division I Arkansas-Little Rock.
Scott second in the MIAA in assists
Senior guard 
Mario Scott leads the team and he's second in the MIAA with 4.9 assists per game. Scott is also WU's leading shooter with a 49 percent average from the field and he's scoring 9.2 points a game. He had 11 points last Wednesday against FHSU and has reached double figures five times this year.
    
Scott has had at least five assists in five of his 11 games this year with a season-high nine coming twice.
About the Bearcats
Southwest Baptist is one of five teams undefeated through January 4 in NCAA II with a 12-0 record. The third-ranked Bearcats are alone at the top of the MIAA at 5-0 and they lead the conference in nine of the 19 statistical categories. They are first in scoring with 95.6 points a game and they have reached 100 points in six of their 12 games, including four of their last six.
   
Matthew Rogers leads the MIAA with 19.9 points a game and he leads the nation with 4.9 blocks a game.
Final notes on the Central Missouri game
• This was the 83rd meeting in school history and UCM now leads the series 42-41.
• Washburn is 16-6 against UCM in Lee Arena and 19-14 in MIAA games.
