The Washburn Ichabods (13-10, 9-7 MIAA) will wrap up a three-game road trip and take on a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time in as many games as they travel to Bolivar, Mo., to face the No. 5 ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcats (19-3, 12-3 MIAA). Washburn topped a then-ranked No. 2 SBU squad in Topeka on Jan. 7 in the first meeting this season. The Ichabods are coming off a 90-82 loss at No. 11 Central Missouri The Bearcats topped Emporia State on  Feb. 10 at home 81-70 last time out. The Ichabods enter the game in a fourth-place tie in the MIAA standings with Emporia State while trailing Fort Hays State by two games for third place. SBU and UCM are tied for the top spot in the conference standings with identical 12-3 records.

Lead falls from Ichabods as they lose to Central Missouri

Lekheythan Malone had 21 points and 
DeAndre Eggins had his first double-double at Washburn as the Ichabods beat second-rated Southwest Baptist, 83-72 Wednesday night, handing the Bearcats their first loss of the season and giving the Ichabods their second win against a top-10 team this year.
Malone was 8 for 16 from the field with seven rebounds and three steals and Eggins had his first double-double as an Ichabod with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 
Covier Carter had a career-high 14 points off a 3-for-6 effort from the field and a 7-of-8 effort from the free throw line.
After a 2-2 tie to open the game the Ichabods went on an 8-0 run and extended that to a 14-1 run to lead 16-3 at the 14:23 mark. The Bearcats got within seven points at 4:56 and then within three at 2:44 when Ryan Dougherty hit a 3-pointer. 
Steve Feighny later made a pair of free throws to give WU at five-point halftime lead.
SBU led twice early in the second half, both times by one point and then Malone's dunk with 14:52 put Washburn up for good, 42-41. A 3-pointer by Carter at 10:21 made it a 10-point game before the Bearcats clawed back within five with 8:16 remaining.
Carter made four straight free throws near the 2:00 mark and then a lay-up by 
Paul Byers with 1:14 gave the Ichabods a 15-point lead.
Washburn shot 44 percent from the field and SBU shot 40 percent. The Ichabods made their first 10 free throws and ended up 70 percent from the line (19 of 27) while SBU was 63 percent (19-30).
Washburn won the rebound battle, 46-35 and committed one fewer turnovers, 18-19.
James Williams led Washburn with five assists, 
Mario Scott had four and Malone's three steals led the team.
Matt Rogers, the MIAA's leading scorer and the nation's leading shot blocker, had 17 points and a block. His point total led his team, as did his nine rebounds.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods put up 51 points in the second half to No. 11 Central Missouri after trailing by 14 at the break and cut the lead to four with 33 seconds left but could not get any closer in a 90-82 loss.
The Ichabods' 
Covier Carter hit back-to-back 3-pointers pulling Washburn within five at 84-79 with 1:16 left in the game. The second one followed a Mule turnover. A pair of free throws by Central pushed the lead back to seven at 86-79 with 52 seconds to play. 
DeAndre Eggins was fouled on a 3-point attempt and went to the line and hit all three pulling Washburn within four at 86-82 with 33 seconds left. The Mules hit the remaining four free throws locking up the game and the eight-point win.
The Ichabods cut the lead to 11 with 6:23 to go at 69-58 on a lay up by 
Logan Stutz, but the Mules pushed the lead back to as many as 15 before a 3-pointer by 
James Williams with 3:24 to go cut the lead to 12 at 77-65. A UCM lay up pushed the lead back to 14 and William McNeil hit a 3-pointer with 2:59 trimming the Mule lead back to 11 at 79-68. Washburn cut it to 10 at 80-70 with 2:23 to play on a drive by 
DeAndre Eggins. Following a pair of free throws by UCM, Daniels hit a 3-pointer for the Ichabods pulling Washburn within nine at 82-73 with 1:42 to play.
In the first half, the Ichabods trailed by 14 at the halftime break 45 to 31. The Mules jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Washburn connected on their first field goal of the half as 
Darnell Kimble scored inside on a lay up 4:30 into the game en route to a first half total of 14 points. The Ichabods did cut the lead to one at 10-9 on a fastbreak bucket by 
Covier Carter off a steal with 11:51 to play in the half.
The Ichabods were limited to 8 of 27 from the field while Central Missouri was 14 of 29 from the field. Washburn did hit 15 of 17 from the free throw line for an 88 percent average.
Kimble finished the game with his third double double of the season leading the Ichabods with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Stutz set a career high with 15 points and 
Nate Daniels recorded a career high with 15 points of his own. Carter finished with 10 hitting all three 3-point attempts.
Sanjay Watts led Central Missouri with 22 points.
The Ichabods finished 25 of 64 from the field increasing their shooting percentage in the second half to 46 percent hitting 17 of 37 from the field.
Ichabods continue stellar play in Lee Arena
The Ichabods started the year 6-0 at home and have since gone 4-1 for an 10-1 record at home. Washburn is out-scoring opponents by an average of 83 to 70 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods shoot 48 percent at home compared to 40 percent in away games.
