The Washburn Ichabods (14-11, 10-8 MIAA) will wrap up the regular season road slate with a trip to Pittsburg, Kan., to face the Gorillas (10-14, 5-12 MIAA) on Saturday night in John Lance Arena. The Ichabods have clinched a spot on the MIAA Tournament with their 93-86 come-from-behind win over Missouri Southern on Thursday night in Topeka. The Ichabods were down by 17 with just over 15 minutes to play and rallied for the win.

Four reach double figures as Ichabods roll past Pittsburg State

James Williams had a career-high 20 points and three other Ichabods also reached double figures as Washburn defeated Pittsburg State, 85-73 Wednesday night in Lee Arena.
The Ichabods improved to 10-6 overall and moved to third in the MIAA with a 6-3 record. The Gorillas dropped to 7-8 and 2-6 in the league. Washburn will return to action Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Emporia State. The Hornets are 12-3 and tied for first in the MIAA with a 6-2 record.
Williams was 6 of 12 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. He hit three 3-pointers and had six assists. He finished second on the team with six rebounds.
DeAndre Eggins scored 18 points for Washburn and was 9 of 11 from the free throw line. He attempted and made all seven of Washburn's first half free throws.
Lekheythan Malone scored 13 points with three 3s and
Darnell Kimble came off the bench to score 10 points as he was 5 of 6 from the field. He also led the team with seven rebounds.
After two early ties and lead changes the Ichabods pulled to a 10-point lead at the 10:21 mark of the opening half on a dunk by
Logan Stutz. A 7-0 run gave WU a 15-point lead with 8:27 remaining and PSU never got closer than nine points away in the half. The Ichabods led 43-30 at halftime.
The two teams traded points the first three minutes of the second half and then Washburn went on a 9-0 run to lead, 61-40 at 14:39. PSU hit a free throw to break the scoreless drought before the Ichabods pushed it to a game-high 27 points, 68-41 two and a half minutes later.
Those two streaks added up to a 16-1 run during a 4:55 stretch.
The Gorillas dropped the lead under 20 at the 8:42 mark and again at 2:05. They ended the game on a 9-0 run but that only pulled them within 12 as time ran out.
The Ichabods shot 48 percent from the field and a season-high 52 percent from 3-point range. PSU was 43 percent from the field and 33 percent from long range.
Mario Scott led Washburn with seven assists and he had no turnovers with three steals and nine points.

• This is the 161st meeting between the two schools and Washburn leads the series, 88-72. The two teams split the series last year.

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- For the second straight game, the Washburn Ichabods pushed a top 10 opponent on their home court with a second half rally, but came up short as they fell 86-84 to No. 5 Southwest Baptist.
In the second half, Washburn pulled with six with 12:33 to play at 62-56, but a 3-pointer and a transition lay up by the Bearcats stretched the lead back to 11 with 11:18 to play. Washburn pulled within five at 67-62 with 9:37 to play.
Nate Daniels nailed a 3-pointer to cut the score to 67-65, but SBU hit one of their own stretching the lead back to five with 8:11 left. Following a pair of free throws by Daniels and a lay up by Eggins, Washburn trailed by four with 6:36 to play. Washburn's
Paul Byers hit a 3-pointer from about 26 feet to bring the Ichabods to 73-72 with 5:47 to go. Byers hit another on the Ichabods' next possession from the corner with 4:49 to play giving Washburn its first lead of the game at 75-73 with 4:45 to go following an SBU timeout.
After a lay up by Washburn's Byers, SBU responded with a 3-pointer by Matt Rogers knotting the score at 77-all with 3:48 to play in the game.

James Williams gave Washburn a 79-77 lead with 3:35 to go and Tomas Brock hit one of two free throws with 3:30 to go pulling SBU within one.After a Washburn missed jumper on offense, D'Ante Harris hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key putting SBU up 81-79 with 2:59 to play in the game. Harris would hit another 3-pointer putting the Bearcats up by five, but with 1:05 to go,
Darnell Kimble scored his 17th point of the game on a lay up pulling Washburn back to within three at 84-81.
Washburn forced a shot clock violation and took possession with 28.9 seconds to go. Daniels' lay up with 19 seconds to play putting the Ichabods down one at 84-83. Nick Kovacevich was fouled and went to the line. After connecting on the first attempt with 13.5 seconds remaining, he hit both putting SBU up three at 86-83.
Eggins was fouled on a two-point attempt with 5.5 just behind the arc fouling out Matt Rogers. Eggins hit the first and after intentionally missing the second, WU regained the possession with 2.5 seconds left. Eggins 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed and Lekehthan Malone's follow-up dunk was just after the buzzer.
The Ichabods trailed 49-38 at the break as Brandon Clemons hit his second of two 3-pointers in the first half. Washburn was 11 of 30 from the field hitting 37 percent while the Bearcats hit 14 of 33. The Ichabods hit 12 of 14 free throw attempts and
DeAndre Eggins led the Ichabods with eight points in the frame.
Eggins led the Ichabods with 18 points and Byers finished with 17 coming off the bench hitting 7 of 10 from the field. Daniels finished with 13 points including three 3-pointers.
Kovacevich led five Bearcats in double figures with 17 points.
Washburn was 28 of 64 for the game and 17 of 34 in the second half. The Bearcats finished 27 of 53 while going 13 of 20 in the second half and 6 of 13 from 3-point range.
Ichabods continue stellar play in Lee Arena
The Ichabods started the year 6-0 at home and have since gone 4-1 for an 11-1 record at home. Washburn is out-scoring opponents by an average of 83 to 70 in Lee Arena. The Ichabods shoot 48 percent at home compared to 40 percent in away games.

About the Gorillas
The Gorillas are 10-14 overall and 5-12 in the MIAA. Carlos Taylor leads the team with 17.4 points a game, the second highest total in the league. T.J. Stukes leads the team with 7.8 rebounds a game and he has 8.9 a game during MIAA games. PSU fell last time out on Feb. 19 84-74 at Emporia State. ESU scored 17 of the first 20 second-half points to turn a three-point halftime deficit into the 10-point win.
Emporia's Dustin Andrews hit a pivotal 3-pointer with 1:23 to play in the game to help the Hornets hold off the Gorillas down the stretch. Pitt State trailed just 74-68 on David McKinnie's two free throws, but Andrews countered with the baseline trey -- his only basket of the game.
Adam Holthaus and Lamar Wilbern led a balanced Emporia attack with 19 points apiece. The Hornets (16-9, 10-8 MIAA) got double-digit contributions from Tim Niles (13) and Robert Moores (12) as well.
Carlos Taylor and TJ Stukes combined for 28 points to pace the Gorillas (10-14, 5-12 MIAA), who held a narrow 29-26 halftime advantage. Taylor finished with a team-leading 16 points, including 10 in the first half, while Stukes fouled out with 12 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Rodney Grace (11), McKinnie (11) and Andy Smith (10) also scored in double figures for the Gorillas.
The Gorillas fell to 1-8 on the road on the season with the loss. The Hornets defended their home floor for just the fourth time in the last 11 contests against PSU and Emporia snapped a two-game home losing streak to the Gorillas with the win.
Coming up next
Washburn will wrap up the regular season on Feb. 25 against Emporia State on senior night. The MIAA's regular season will wrap up on Feb. 28, but the Ichabods will have an “off night” as the other 10 schools will play their final regular season games. The MIAA Postseason Tournament will start on March 5.
