HAYS, Kan. -- Washburn scored seven runs in the ninth inning, including five with two outs to rally for a 13-9 win and salvage a doubleheader split with Fort Hays State on Tuesday at Larks Park in Hays. The Ichabods trailed 9-5 after seven innings. The Tigers won the opener 15-2.
The Ichabods (13-13, 7-7 MIAA) took a 2-0 lead in the nightcap in the second inning.
Brian Clark had an RBI single and
Travis Ice drove in a run with a groundout. The Tigers (19-17, 11-11 MIAA) tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, but two runs in the fourth gave Washburn a 4-2 lead.

Brian Gorges RBI double made it 5-3 after five.
The Tigers took the lead with three runs in the sixth and added to that lead with three more in the seventh to make it a 9-5 game. That's when the Ichabods began their rally.
Calvin Iversen drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth to drive in a run and draw WU within 9-6.
RBI from
Brett Sorensen and Luis Beltran Lopez drew the 'Bods to within one at 9-8 with two outs in the ninth. An error allowed the tying run to score and
Thomas Holiday had an infield single to drive in the go-ahead run.
Dane Simoneau doubled with the bases loaded to drive in a pair and Gorges knocked in his second run of the game to complete the rally.
Simoneau finished the game 5-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI. Clark and
Cameron Kasel had three hits apiece.
Chris Contee (1-2) pitched one shutout inning in relief to earn the win, while
Eldon Little pitched a shutout ninth to complete the victory.
Andrew Miller allowed six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings to start the game. Garrett Morgan (1-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up eight runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings of relief.
Game one was all Fort Hays, with the Tigers rolling to a 15-2 win. FHSU scored at least one run in each of the first five innings and led 9-0 before Washburn was able to get on the board. The Ichabods scored two runs in the fifth on a two-run home run from
Wes Joy, his third long ball of the year. The Tigers responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth and cruised to the win.
Joel Ricketts (4-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on 12 hits in three innings of work. Eric Gilliland (6-4) allowed two runs on two hits in six innings to earn the win for FHSU
