PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod golf team turned a 4-shot first round lead into a 6-shot win in the MIAA and season opening Pittsburg State Invitational at Crestwood Country Club.

Sam Schulte picked up individual honors after defeating Central Oklahoma's Dillon Rust in a playoff picking up his first collegiate win on the fourth playoff hole.
The Ichabods led by four shots over Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma after the first 18 holes of the first MIAA points sactioned event of the season and stretched their winning margin to six shots over the Bronchos while the Mules finished in third with a team score of 601. The Ichabods finished with an 8-over 296 to finish with a two-day total of 591. Central Oklahoma had a team score of 597 as new head coach
Jeff Stromgren picked up the win in his Washburn debut as head coach.
Schulte was in a tie for 12th after the first round after recording a 2-over 74, but shot a 2-under 70 leading to the playoff win over UCO's Rust. Schulte finished with an even-par 144 for the 36 holes.
Trey Siegel had a 2-over 146 to finish in a tie for fourth place with a pair of 73's.
Nathan Hoefflin had a pair of 75's to finish in a tie for 11th with a two-day score of 150.
Ronnie McHenry finished in a tie for 15th with scores of 73 and 78 for a total of 151 and
Tyler Wright finished in a tie for 31st with a 75 and a 79 for a 10-over 154.
Kurt Walker finished in a tie for 24th playing as an individual with a pair of 76's for an 8-over 152.
Lindenwood (604) finished in fourth place behind the Ichabods, Mules and Bronchos followed by Nebraska-Kearney (605), Fort Hays State (608), Missouri Southern (614), Northeastern State (616), Pittsburg State (618), Lincoln (619), Missouri Western (623), Southwest Baptist (626) and Missouri Southern B team (628).
The Ichabods will be back in action on Sept. 17-18 at the Brickyard Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
