 Opening Tip
The Washburn Ichabods will continue their five-game homestand hosting Newman on Nov. 23 on Schendel Court at Lee Arena.
Washburn is 5-0 this season after topping Rockhurst 79-70 on Thursday night.
Newman is 2-2 this season coming off a 96-87 loss at Fort Hays State.
Newman topped MIAA opponents Pittsburg State 80-76 at home.

 Bod Notes
The Ichabods have won their last 26 regular season non-conference home games.
Washburn's last regular season loss in Lee Arena in non-conference action was against Central Oklahoma 83-67 on Nov. 29, 2005.
The Washburn Ichabods have won 504 games since becoming a member of the NCAA Division II ranks prior to the start of the 1989-89 season - which is the most by any member of the MIAA during that stretch.
Washburn trailed Rockhurst 40-36 at the half. It was the first time the Ichabods had trailed at the half in a home game since falling to Missouri Western on Feb. 6 last season in a 79-74 loss. Washburn trailed by the same 40-36 score.
The Ichabods will open MIAA play on Dec. 5 at Southwest Baptist.

 Last Time Out For The Ichabods
Washburn 79, Rockhurst 70 • Nov. 21, 2013
TOPEKA, Kan. -- A 24-3 run over a nine minute stretch of the second half turned a three-point deficit into a 16-point lead as the Ichabods improved to 5-0 with a  79-70 win over Rockhurst on Thursday night on Schendel Court at Lee Arena. 
The Ichabods trailed by as many as six in the first half as the Hawks (2-2) took a 40-36 lead into the halftime break behind 56 percent shooting while forcing the Ichabods into seven turnovers while they held a 10-2 advantage in fastbreak points. 
Washburn chipped away at the Hawks' lead and would overcome the margin when Jeff Reid's tip in pulled Washburn within three at 50-47 kickstarting the 24-3 swing. Kyle Wiggins scored seven in the run while Leon Flowers, Alex North and Andy Wilson all hit 3-pointers while Wiggins added two of his own during the Washburn stretch with Washburn going up 69-53 with 5:56 to play which was its largest lead of the night.
The Hawks hit two 3-pointers in the final 56 seconds to trim the margin back to single digits as the ichabods took the 79-70 win taking their 26th-straight regular season non-conference victory.
Stephon Drane led the Ichabods with a season-high 18 points off 6 of 9 shooting from the field pacing four total Ichabods in double figures. Wiggins had 16 points and a career-high seven rebounds while North recorded his fifth double double of his career and the third in five games this season with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, which also tied a career high. Reid finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds recording his first double double at Washburn with a career-best on the boards against Rockhurst.
Brandon McCann had 19 to lead the Hawks and James Robinson had 13 points hitting double figures.
Washburn held a 41-28 advantage on the glass and outscored the Hawks 38 to 16 in the paint.

 About Newman
Newman is 2-2 this season with wins over Pittsburg State (80-76) and Manhattan Christian (97-68).
Washburn is the third MIAA squad the Jets have played this season. 
Newman fell to Fort Hays State 96-87 on Nov. 19 and they will take on Emporia State in Emporia on Dec. 15.
Jeremy Espinoza leads the team in scoring with 12 points per game.
Three other Jets are averaging double figures in Elhad Emerllahu at 10.8 ppg, Jack Pyle at 10.5 ppg and Ryan McCarthy at 10.0 ppg.
Espinoza and Emerllahu average a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game.
The Jets are being outrebounded by an average of 41 to 35.5 per game this season.
The Jets have forced 62 opponent turnovers compared to just 44 total for themselves.

 Series History With Newman
Saturday's meeting with the Jets is the 25th all-time. 
The Ichabods lead the all-time series 18-6. 
The Ichabods have won the last 15 of the last 16 meetings with the Jets.
The Jets snapped the Ichabods' 15-game winning streak in the last meeting with the Jets on Dec. 15, 2012 in Wichita.

 Last Time Out For Newman
Hays, Kan. – The Newman men's basketball fell in a high scoring game, 96-87, at Fort Hays State at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Jets dropped to 2-2 on the season, and the Tigers improved to 4-0.
With the Jets down 16-12 at the 14:24 mark, the Tigers went on a 16-2 run to push the margin to 32-16 midway through the first half. FHSU held the 16-point margin into halftime, leading 54-38 at the break.
After the Tigers upped the score to a 20-point lead, the Jets cut the deficit in half to 10 at 60-50 on a Jeremy Espinoza jumper with 14:09 remaining. The Jets trailed by only six points after a Jack Pyle layup with 11:54 left made the score 64-58. FHSU quickly pushed the lead to 12 on back-to-back 3s from Jared Tadlock. The Tigers continued to hold the advantage in the 96-87 win.   
NU's offense was very balanced with five Jets scoring in double figures. Trae Beck led NU with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Jeremy Espinoza and Landers Riddle each tallied 14 points. Riddle was 7-of-9 from the field. Elhad Emerllahu scored 13 points.
Perryonte Smith totaled a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists, his first career double-double for the Jets.
Dwayne Brunson and Tomislav Gabric each finished with double-double for FHSU. Brunson had a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. Gabric totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds.

 Last Meeting With Newman
Dec. 15, 2012 -- WICHITA, Kan. -- The No. 2-ranked Washburn Ichabods fell for the first time this season losing at Newman 86-69 in a battle of undefeated teams. 
The Jets (8-0) led from start to finish as they hit 5 of their first 6 shots from the field jumping out to a 7-2 lead just over two minutes into the game. Washburn rallied and cut the Jets lead to 7-6 after a pair of Will McNeill free throws. Again the Jets jumped out to a five-point lead, but the Ichabods came back to tie the score at 11 with 14:26 left in the first half. A 10-2 run by the Jets over the next three minutes pushed the Newman lead back out to eight, but again the Ichabods trimmed the lead back to one at 22-21. The Jets pushed out to a six-point lead at 32-26 before the Ichabods for the third time cut the lead back to a one-point lead at 32-31 just before the half. However the Jets would go on a 10-4 run to end the half with a 45-37 lead for the first Ichabod deficit at the half of the season.
In the second half, the Ichabods came out and cut the Jets' lead to three at 45-42 and to six at 60-54 and at 62-56 but would get no closer as the Jets picked up the win.
Washburn was led by McNeill's 20 points as he finished 14 of 17 from the free throw line collecting five steals. Martin Mitchell had 10 points. Alex North returned to the court for the first time since suffering a concussion in the Bethany game prior to Thanksgiving scoring nine points off the bench hitting a pair of three pointers. Bobby Chipman led the Ichabods with seven rebounds scoring seven.
Darrell Traylor and Shamar Acuay scored 15 off the bench for the Jets.
Washburn turned the ball over 18 times leading to 16 points for Newman. Newman also outrebounded the Ichabods 40 to 33 in the game. The Jets finished 46 percent from the field hitting nine 3-pointers. Washburn was 39 percent from the field and 2 of 16 from 3-point range. Both teams finished 25 of 37 from the free throw line. Newman's bench outscored the Ichabod bench 41 to 15.

 Ichabods in the national rankings
The Ichabods received votes in the first regular season NABC Top 25 coaches poll which was released on Nov. 19. The Ichabods have been in the top 25 a total of 98 times since joining the NCAA ranks and they have been voted in the top 10 a total of 51 times since the 1989-90 season.
