 Opening Tip•    The Washburn Ichabod basketball team will return to the court on Tuesday night in Lee Arena when they will host Peru State at 7:30 p.m. at Schendel Court.
•   The Ichabods are 1-2 after topping Southwestern College on Monday night in Topeka in a 78-72 win.
•   Tuesday's game will count as an exhibition game for Peru State who enters the game with a 5-1 record coming off an 74-70 win over Saint Mary.
•   The Bobcats' lone loss is to Ottawa in an 81-77 loss on Nov. 15.
•   The Ichabods improved to 30-1 all-time in home openers under
Bob Chipman in Lee Arena.
•   The Ichabods will continue their busy week when they travel to Wichita to face Newman on Nov. 20 in a 7 p.m. start before heading for four games in Hawaii with the first three taking place at the Hawaii-Hilo Thanksgiving Classic. Washburn will take on BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 28 before returning home to open MIAA play with Southwest Baptist on Dec. 4 and Missouri Southern on Dec. 6.

Alex North has recorded 12 double doubles in his career at Washburn … he has scored his 800th career point against Southwestern and has played in 91 games with 58 starts … he went over the 500-rebound total against the RiverHawks in the final game last season.

Kyle Wiggins went over the 800-point mark for his career  against Minnesota State … he has averaged 9.1 ppg in 89 games making 48 starts after averaging 15.0 ppg average as a junior.

Christian Ulsaker is averaging 8.3 points with 5.3 rebounds a game this season after coming back from a wrist injury which forced him out of all but four games last year.

•   Washburn is 43 of 69 from the free throw line for a 62 percent average while their opponents are 62 of 81 hitting 77 percent of their charity stripe attempts.

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods men's basketball team led from start to finish in a 78-72 win over Southwestern (Kan.) in its home opener on Monday night.Â
Washburn opened the game with an 11-3 run hitting 5 of their first 8 shots of the game as five different Ichabods scored while holding the Moundbuilders to 1 of 12 from the field in the first 7:52 of the contest. The Ichabods (1-2) stretched their lead out to 10 at 22-12 before the Moundbuilders cut it down to five at 22-17, but Washburn finished the half on a 11-3 run taking a 33-20 lead into the break. Washburn shot 52 percent from the field in the first half while holding Southwestern (7-0) to 7 of 29 shooting in the frame.
Washburn added to its lead building a margin of 20 points with 18:56 to play in the game. With the Ichabods leading by 15 at 46-31 with 15:05 left after a jumper by
Stephon Drane, the Moundbuilders would go on a 10-2 run trimming the Ichabods' lead to seven at 48-41. The Ichabods built their lead back to 14 but couldn't put Southwestern away as the Moundbuilders shaved the lead back down to five with 1:46 to play, but a 3-pointer by
Kevin House from the top of the key put the Ichabods up eight with 1:13 to play in the game.
Southwestern cut the lead down to six three times in the final 60 seconds but would not get any closer.
Alex North led the ichabods with 22 points adding seven rebounds.
Turon Parker had 19 and
Kyle Wiggins had 11 off the bench. Cameron Clark led four Moundbuilders in double figures with 17 points.Â
Washburn shot 56 percent in the second half finished at 54 percent for the game going 29 of 54 overall while the Moundbuilders were 17 of 31 in the second half for a 55 percent average outscoring the Ichabods 52 to 45 in the final frame. Southwestern also outrebounded the Ichabods 34 to 31 turning 14 offensive rebounds into 10 second chance points.
 About Peru State•   Peru State is 5-1 this season and won its last game on Nov. 15 against Saint Mary 74-70.
•   Corday Sims leads three Bobcats in double-figure scoring with 16.8 ppg. Jamar Cannon  is averaging 16.0 ppg and Sean McGary is scoring 12.0 ppg.
 Last time out for Peru StateIt was all St. Mary early in the game as the Spires scored the first eight points before Peru State got on the board with a shot by Cannon with 17:01 left in the first half.  St. Mary responded with another bucket, but after that Peru State went on a 9-0 run which was capped off by a three-point basket by Calvin Thomas (Chicago) at the 14:32 mark, giving the Bobcats their first lead at 11-10.Â
The Spires hit a trey to go back on top at 13-11, but Cannon countered with a three of his own, giving Peru State a 14-13 lead. Â The Bobcats would not trail the rest of the first half and led by as many as 11 at 28-17 with 6:06 left in the first 20 minutes.
St. Mary outscored Peru State 14 to five to end the half with the 'Cats still leading 33-31.
In the second half, the Bobcats built another 11-point advantage at 62-51 after Ruffin hit a bucket with 7:52 left in the game.
The Spires still made a game of it as they tied the game at 64-64 with 3:26 remaining and then again at 66-66 with 1:41 left. Â Peru State would score the next seven points to lead 73-68 before holding on for a four-point win.
 Series history with Peru State•    Washburn leads the all-time series 12-1.
•     Washburn has won the last nine games in the series.
•     The lone win for the Bobcats in the series came on Dec. 20, 1962 in a 60-54 win on the road.
 Last meeting with Peru State(Nov. 12, 2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod basketball team improved to 3-0 with a home-opening 92-66 win over Peru State on Monday night on Schendel Court at Lee Arena.Â
The Ichabods led from start to finish as four starters reached double figures led by
Stephon Drane and
Christian Ulsaker who each had 15 to tie for game-high honors.
Alex North recorded his second-straight double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Washburn led 38-29 at the half after shooting 41 percent, but they were outshot by the Bobcats who hit 11 of 23 shots in the opening half. In the second half, the Ichabods improved to a blistering 59 percent from field hitting 23 of 39 shots to finish at 50 percent from the field for the game.
The game was tied early at 12-12 before the ichabods would go on an 18-7 run over the next 7:22 to put the game out of reach. Washburn would lead by as many as 30 in the game at 82-52 with 5:04 left in the match.
Chris Deanes scored 13 and
Kyle Wiggins scored 12.
Washburn had a 50 to 33 advantage on the glass outscoring 52 to 30 in the paint. Washburn also forced 15 turnovers turning those miscues into 21 points.
