PITTSBURG, Kan. – Brett Ash tied the school record for complete games as Washburn won the opener 4-1 Saturday at Pittsburg State. The Ichabods then dropped the second game 3-0 as the two split the second and third games of their four-game series. They'll wrap up the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. game.

Brett Ash pitched in his first game since the second week of the season and moved up the Washburn career record charts in three categories. He allowed just a first inning run off a walk and a single and then allowed just one single the rest of the game as he got his first win (1-1) of the year. He struck out nine and walked five in his 21st career complete game. He entered the year tied for second in complete games at Washburn and is now tied for first with Craig Hefner (1982-85). He also moved from sixth to a tie for fourth with 167 career strikeouts and his 18th career win moved him to fifth in school history.

Corey Gragg went 3 for 3 with an RBI and run scored in the first game. He had an RBI single in the second as Washburn tied the game 1-1. The Ichabods then took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third. Taylor Herrington started the inning with a single and then Washburn took advantage of three errors and two infield hits. Cole Gardner had an RBI single and Payton Soicher drove in a run with a single to the pitcher.

Ash pitched out of a jam in the sixth inning. He allowed one runner after a wild pitch on a strikeout, another on a walk and the third on the Gorilla's second hit of the game. A grounder then ended the inning. He then retired the Gorillas in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Washburn then ended up on the other end of a solid pitching outing in the second game. Parker Gibson produced Washburn's only two hits with one in the first and one in the sixth. The Gorillas scored two in the second on a two-run triple and then got one more in the sixth.

Taylor Gentry fell to 2-1 as he pitched all but PSU's final out. He allowed all three runs off six hits and he struck out five.
