Washburn will play just its second home series this year when it hosts Northwest Missouri in four games this weekend.
The Ichabods will then make up last Tuesday's game at Rockhurst this coming Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m. Cold weather postponed the game.
Washburn is 10-12 overall and tied for seventh in the MIAA at 10-10. The top eight teams in the standings advance to the MIAA tournament.
Northwest Missouri is 14-10 and fourth in the MIAA at 10-7. The Bearcats will host Rockhurst Wednesday before hosting Washburn.
The all-time series is tied at 52-52. Washburn dropped three of four against NWMSU last year.
Rockhurst is 6-11 after splitting a pair of DHs with Ill.-Springfield over the weekend. The Hawks have six games scheduled before their make-up game with WU.
Rockhurst leads the series vs Washburn 34-31 and they have met at least once every year since 1999.
Kyle Carnahan has reached base safely in each of the first 20 games this year and so far in 21 of the 22.
Sophomore catcher
David Gauntt is leading Washburn with a .338 batting average, 24 hits and 20 runs scored.
Senior
Brett Ash has a 1.08 ERA through three starts and is 1-1. He's allowed just two ER in 16.2 innings.
Ash moved to a tie for 1st with 21 complete games. He's now 6th with 18 wins and 4th with 167 K. Two more K will move him to 3rd and 21 will move him to 2nd.
Washburn is 5-0 in the second game of four-game series this year. The Bods are 3-2 in game 2 and 1-4 in games 1 and 4.
Ichabods return home to host Bearcats in weekend series then head to Rockhurst Wednesday
The Ichabods will return to Falley Field Friday to host just their second series this season when they begin a four-game tilt with Northwest Missouri. They will then return to the road to make up a game at Rockhurst, Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m.
Washburn and the Bearcats will play Friday at 4 p.m. and then play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. They will wrap up the series Sunday with a single game at 1.
The Ichabods dropped to 10-12 overall and 10-10 in the MIAA after losing three of four at Pittsburg State last weekend. They then had a game at Rockhurst postponed due to cold weather.
Northwest Missouri is 14-10 overall and 10-7 in the MIAA and will host Rockhurst Wednesday. The Hawks are 6-11 and have six games on their schedule before hosting Washburn.
Ash returns from injury and climbs record charts after another strong start
Senior
Brett Ash made his first start since the second week of the season Saturday at Pittsburg State and got a 4-1 win. He struck out nine in the complete game.
Ash moved to a tie for first with his 21st career complete game. Craig Hefner (1982-85) also threw 21 complete games at Washburn. Ash is now sixth with 18 career wins and his next win will move him into a four-way tie for third. His 167 strikeouts is tied for fourth in Washburn history. He will move to third with two more and to a tie for second with 21 more.
Ash is second in Washburn history in career innings pitched and career starts.
Carnahan reaches safely in first 20 games and 21 of all 22
Kyle Carnahan has had a turn on the base paths in all but one of Washburn 22 games this year. In fact, he reached safely in the first 20 games with at least a hit in 14 games and a walk or hit by pitch in the other six.
He's batting .302 with a .439 on-base percentage. He leads the team with six hit by pitches and he's tied for the lead with 11 walks.
Ichabods tough in the middle
Washburn is 5-0 in the second game of four-game MIAA series this year. The Ichabods are 3-2 in the third games to make them 8-2 in the middle two games of the series. They are 1-4 in openers and 1-4 in finales. Washburn has won two series, lost two and split one this year.
About Northwest Missouri
The Bearcats split a four-game series with Fort Hays State on the road last weekend and they'll host Rockhurst Wednesday before travelling to Topeka. They are 14-10 overall and fourth in the MIAA at 10-7.
Jon Pomatto leads the team batting .380 and he also has a 6.75 ERA out of the bullpen with two saves. Ryker Fox leads the starting rotation with a 4-2 record and he has a 4.83 ERA in seven starts and eight appearances.
About Rockhurst
The Hawks are 6-11 but they have six games scheduled before their contest with Washburn on April 2. Josh Dennett is batting .431 through 17 games and Josh Tols is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA through four starts and five total appearances.
Keeping up with the changes
Washburn's series at Pittsburg State last weekend was the first this year to be entirely played as originally scheduled. The Ichabods have numerous games postponed or moved and didn't play their first home game until March 14, the latest date in recorded school history.
Wednesday's game at Rockhurst will be a makeup of last Tuesday's game. The March 4 game with Newman has been moved to April 21 at Falley Field. Makeup dates for two other non-conference games have not been announced yet.

The Ichabods will play a home and away series with Emporia State next weekend. April 4 the two will play a single game at Falley Field. On April 5 they will play a doubleheader in Emporia and on April 6 they will wrap up the four-game series in Topeka. A non-conference home game with Rockhurst will follow on April 8.
