Season Statistics TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Ichabods tied a school record with a 14-run inning in the second game Saturday at Northeastern State but then they gave up a 13-run inning en route to a 23-22 loss. They also lost the opener, 6-5 in the sweep that wrapped up the MIAA portion of the schedule.
The Ichabods (25-22, 22-18 MIAA) will wrap up the regular season Tuesday at 3 p.m. with a game at William Jewell. They will also await the MIAA tournament bracket announcement to see where they will play Friday when the best-of-three first round starts.
Parker Gibson was 3 for 5 with four RBI and three runs scored in the second game.
Taylor Herrington and
Kyle Carnahan also drove in four runs and
Connor Crimmins drove in three and stole three bases.
The Ichabods were tied 3-3 with the RiverHawks before they scored 14 in the fourth inning. That total tied a school record set in 2012 against Lincoln. They then allowed the RiverHawks to get within a run with 13 tallies in the sixth inning. That total tied for the most Washburn has ever allowed in a single inning.
NSU added five more runs in the seventh to go ahead but Washburn got them back and went up 22-21 with two runs in the eight and two more in the ninth. The RiverHawks then led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run and later won the game with a sacrifice fly.
Drew Ridley gave up the tying and winning runs to suffer the loss and fall to 1-1.
Eric Schmid started and gave up three runs through the first four innings.
Washburn led 2-0 in the first game before the RiverHawks chipped away at the lead and took a 4-2 advantage into the sixth. The Ichabods then scored three two-out runs in the sixth to go ahead before NSU scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to lead to a win.
Crimmins had a three-run home run in the sixth inning and
Wes Jones and
Riley Krane each had two of Washburn's nine hits.
Mark Biesma started and gave up all six runs as he fell to 3-4. He struck out a career-high 10 batters without a walk.
