TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team lost for the first time this season in a 75-51 loss to Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon in Lee Arena.
After the Ichabods hit their first shot of the day, a 3-pointer by
Javion Blake, giving Washburn its only lead of the game, Rockhurst (2-1) ripped off a 15-2 run over the next 6:28 as the Ichabods missed their next 13 shots while Rockhurst connected on 4 of 6 shots including 3 of 5 3-pointers building a 15-5 lead.
Tyas Martin's lay up with 12:55 to play broke the run by Rockhurst.
After a bucket by
David Salach with 11:04 to play in the first half cut the lead back to eight at 17-9, Rockhurst built its lead out to 17 using an 11-2 run. Washburn (2-1) would get as close as 11 near in the end of the half but trailed by 14 at the break 37-23.
In the second half the Ichabods cut the lead to 13 twice with the final time coming with 11:35 to play in the game but would not get any closer as the Hawks snapped the Ichabods' 32-game, regular season, non-conference homecourt winning streak.
Blake led the Ichabods with nine points and
Cameron Wiggins had eight.
Brady Skeens tied for a game-high with 11 rebounds while scoring four points recording three blocks. Malachi Nix scored a game-high 18 points leading four Hawks in double figures.
Washburn finished the game 16 of 51 for a 31 percent average while the Hawks were 25 of 52 for a 48 percent clip. Rockhurst hit 11 of 21 3-pointers while Washburn was 2 of 14. The Hawks also held a 37-30 advantage on the glass.
About Peru State• Peru State is 3-5 coming off an 87-78 win over Central Methodist University last time out on Nov. 21.

Last meeting with Peru State(Nov. 18, 2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods used a 64-point performance from the bench en route to an 89-59 win over Peru State improving to 2-2 on the season on Tuesday night at Schendel Court.
The Ichabods led from start to finish as they jumpted out to a 15-4 lead and never looked back in the 30-point win over Peru State. The Ichabods would go on to double up the Bobcats' score in the first half building a lead of 32 to 16 with 4:59 to play before Peru State cut the lead back to 14 at the break with Washburn leading 36-22. Washburn shot 41 percent in the first half, but struggled from the 3-point arch hitting only 1 of 12 attempts.
In the second half, Washburn shot 52 percent from the field as the Bobcats would not get closer than 11 points, which was with 18:30 remaining in the game, as the Ichabods led by as many as 31 in the contest.
Kyle Wiggins came off the bench to score 17 points hitting 5 of 6 shots from the field while
Alex North scored 15 adding eight rebounds.
Christian Ulsaker recorded his first double double at Washburn with 10 points and 10 rebounds and
Jeremy Lickteig scored a career-high 14 off the bench in 13 minutes. Corday Sims and Jamar Cannon each had 15 to lead the Bobcats.
The Ichabods had 25 assists on 30 field goals in the game and finished 46 percent from the field and held a 53 to 33 rebound advantage.
Washburn also had a 25 to 4 advantage in fast break points and a 42 to 20 lead in points in the paint.
Last time out for Peru State(Nov. 18, 2015) Trailing by ten with 17 minutes left in the game did not deter the Peru State men's basketball team on Saturday at the Al Wheeler Activity Center. The Bobcats outscored the visiting Central Methodist (Mo.) (CMU) Eagles 43-24 over the course of the final 17 minutes to win 87-78.
With the win, Peru State snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Eagles fell to 3-3 and also are now 1-1 in the Heart.
Corday Sims had a game-high 30 points to lead Peru State on 9 of 16 shooting which included making 7 of 10 from behind-the-arc. Two other Bobcats finished in double figures with Ellis adding 16 and Hunter contributing 13 while coming off the bench.
Sims also led the team with six rebounds with Bol and Josh Varney each grabbing three. Hunter dished out seven assists with Ellis adding another five.
Connor Dukes and Varney each had one steal with Varney also being credited with one block.
