TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's
Tanner Johnson's bases loaded single in the bottom of the 11th propelled the Ichabods to a 6-5 win over Central Missouri in the opening game of a four game series. The series continues on Saturday at 1 p.m.
After the Mules (20-16, 15-10 MIAA) scored once in the top of the 11th to take a 5-4 lead, Washburn's
David Gauntt drew a walk and then
Tanner Triggs reached on a single through the right side. After
Cole Gardner reached on a throwing error on a sac bunt sending Gauntt home, the Mules intentionally walked
Payton Soicher to load the bases setting up Johnson's game-winner.
Washburn (22-13, 15-10 MIAA) tied the score in the bottom of the first after the Mules scored one in their first at bat. Washburn also had solo runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. In the sixth,
Connor Crimmins scored
Parker Gibson with a ground out to second after Gibson led off the inning with a single.
In the seventh, Soicher scored on an RBI single by
Riley Krane and in the eighth Gauntt scored on an RBI single by Johnson.
Johnson finished with two hits as did Krane, Gauntt and Triggs as each team had 11 hits.
Tanner Kilmer pitched five innings of relief picking up the win allowing four hits and one run striking out three improving to 4-3 on the season.
Dan Gabler started the game and allowed three earned runs in six innings.
