MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team picked up an MIAA doubleheader sweep over Northwest Missouri winning 7-2 and 10-3. The series schedule will now wrap up on Friday in another twinbill starting at noon because of anticipated rain the rest of the weekend.
Game 1 - WU 7, NWMSU 2Washburn scored two runs in the first and second innings adding solo runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings leading to the 7-2 win.
A two-run homer by
Kyle Carnahan put the Ichabods on the board first in Washburn's first at bat scoring
Riley Krane who led off the game with a walk. The Bearcats came back with a solo run in the bottom of the inning cutting the Ichabod lead in half at 2-1.
In the second inning, Washburn added a pair with an RBI triple by
Payton Soicher scoring
Tanner Johnson. Soicher later scored on an RBI single by Krane who finished with two hits in the game.
Soicher drove in his second run with an RBI single in the fourth inning again scoring Johnson who walked putting Washburn up 5-2.
In the fifth, an RBI single by
David Gauntt scored Carnahan.
Washburn's final run came via a Bearcat error when Carnahan's single up the midle scored
Parker Gibson.
Carnahan was 3 for 4 with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored. Johnson scored a pair of runs and Soicher drove in two with two hits.
Maustin Otterstatter improved to 3-2 allowing an unearned run striking out three Bearcats pitching 5 2/3 innings.
Ryne Dowling pitched the rest of the game allowing a hit for Northwest Missouri.
Game 2 - WU 10, NWMSU 3The Ichabods (24-17, 17-13 MIAA) scored all 10 of their runs in the final four innings and David Gaunt had a pair of 2-run homers as the Ichabods completed the day one sweep in the 10-3 win.
Washburn was held scoreless until the sixth inning and with two hits until Carnahan led off the sixth inning with a single and later scored on the first of Gauntt's home runs. Washburn added a third run in the inning with a single by
Connor Crimmins.
In the seventh inning, Krane led off with a single and scored on Carnahan's single to center putting Washburn up 4-3. Gauntt then would hit his 12th home run of the season sending Carnahan home.
Washburn added three more in the eighth inning taking advantage of one of four Northwest Missouri (19-22, 14-16 MIAA) errors in the second game. Gibson recorded an RBI in the frame.
Krane had an RBI single in the ninth inning in his sixth at bat of the game.
Carnahan had three hits in the game as Washburn finished with 13 overall. Krane, Gauntt and Crimmins each had two hits. Gauntt finished with 4 RBI to lead Washburn.
Tanner Kilmer picked up the win in relief pitching three innings coming in for
Dan Gabler who pitched five innings striking out three. Kilmer finished with a strikout allowing two hits and an earned run.
Reed Morton pitched an inning out of the bullpen giving up two hits with a strikeout.
