Last Time Out For The IchabodsWashburn 58, Central Missouri 56 -- Jan. 27, 2016
WARRENSBUG, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods held off two potential game-tying shots in the final three seconds as the Ichabods rallied from 14 points down as they picked up a 58-56 win over Central Missouri on Wednesday night.
While holding a 58-55 lead with 12 seconds to play, Washburn (12-6, 8-5 MIAA) fouled the Mules (12-7, 6-7 MIAA) sending them to the free throw line. The Mules' Brad Woodson hit the first free throw and Reaves grabbed the rebound but his game-tying layup missed and Marquiez Lawrence's offensive tip at the buzzer missed as the Ichabods held off Central Missouri for the win.
In the first half, the Mules were on fire from deep hitting 7 of 16 shots from 3-point range going 12 of 27 from the field overall. The Mules built a lead of as many as 11 points at 29-18 with 4:20 to play in the first half before the Ichabods finished the opening stanza on a 10-2 run over the final 3:46 cutting the margin to three at 31-28 at the break.
Coming out of the locker room, the Mules ripped off a 12-2 run over the next 3:44 building their lead back to 13 at 43-30 with 16:45 to play.
Washburn came back with a 15-4 run of its own cutting the Mules' lead to two at 47-45 with 6:37 to play in the game on a dunk by
Brady Skeens.
Neither team would score until the 4:22 mark when
Randall Smith tied the score at 47 with a layup. A jumper by Spencer Reaves 30 seconds later put the Mules back up two.
After the Mules missed a pair of free throws, Skeens put the Ichabods up 51-49 with 2:42 to go in the game. On the Mules' next possession, Reaves hit both free throws tying the score at 51 with 2:23 to go in the game.
Andy Wilson hit a deep 3-pointer with 2:04 to go stretching the lead to 54-51 off an assist by
Christian Ulsaker. The Mules came up empty on their next trip down the court and after a foul by the Mules, Skeens hit both free throws stretching the lead up to five at 56-51 with 1:38 to play.
The Mules came up with a swipe and a bucket with 58 seconds to play as Tereke Eckwood scored cutting the Ichabod advantage back to three.
A layup with 39 seconds to play by Reaves trimmed back the Ichabod lead to one at 56-55, but Smith pushed Washburn's lead back to three with 12 seconds left with a layup leading to the Ichabods fouling up three with three seconds to play.
Smith led the Ichabods with 16 points going 7 of 9 from the field while Skeens recorded his sixth double double of the season and second straight with 14 points and 11 rebounds adding three blocks. Skeens played all 20 minutes of the second half scoring 10 points with eight rebounds. Wilson finished with 10 points hitting a pair of 3-pointers.
Reaves led the Mules with 18 points.
Washburn outrebounded the Mules 43 to 32 including 12 offensive rebounds to nine. Washburn also turned 17 Mule turnovers into 16 points. Washburn was 11 of 18 from the free throw line while the Mules were 3 of 11 overall going 3 of 9 in the second half.

Last meeting with Southwest Baptist(Dec. 12, 2015) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team held off an 11-5 run by Southwest Baptist over the final 5:15 of the game to pick up a 59-57 win over the Bearcats in Lee Arena on Saturday in their only home game in the month of December.
With Washburn holding a 54-46 lead with 5:16 to play, the Bearcats would go on a 11-6 run to tie the score with 26 seconds to play after a pair of free throws by Logan Hovey knotting the score at 57-57. On the ensuing play, Washburn ran the clock down and

Andy Wilson picked off the inbounds pass as time expired as the Ichabods improved to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Washburn led by as many as 13 in the second half using a 13-0 run to start the second half building a 47-35 lead over the Bearcats.
Both teams struggled in the early going as they combined for a 18 of 45 shooting mark in the first half as the Ichabods took a 30-28 lead into the break at the half. Ten different Ichabods scored in the first half with none collecting more than eight.
Javion Blake led the Ichabods with 14 points and Skeens recorded his second-straight double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wilson scored 12 off the bench for Washburn. SBU (6-3, 2-2 MIAA) was led by Hovey's 14 points and seven rebound.
Washburn finished 19 of 47 from the field and was 19 of 34 from the free throw line in the game including 8 of 19 in the second half. Washburn outrebounded the Bearcats 34-31 in the game.
Last time out for Southwest Baptist(Jan. 28, 2016) Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU men's basketball team put up a tough fight against the Emporia State Hornets but fell 68-64. The loss drops the Bearcats to 8-11 (3-10 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats were the first to score with a layup by Brian Patterson, but the Hornets quickly scored to tie the game in the first couple minutes of play. Emporia jumped to a 2-point lead, but a 3-pointer by Logan Hovey with 17:10 left in the half put the Bearcats back in the lead at 5-4. The Bearcats extended their lead when Kalund Brown threw it downcourt for Kalehl Brown to score an easy layup (7-4). A steal by Kalehl Brown gave SBU the ball back before he dished off to Marley Biyendolo to score a layup bringing the score to 9-4 with 14:50 left in the half. The scoring went back-and-forth with Emporia slowly catching up and gaining a 1-point lead (14-13) with 10:09 on the clock. The lead switched twice before shots from Cartier Dean and Theo Oghide gave SBU a 5-point lead (23-18) with 5:42 left in the half. Emporia caught up again, but a jumper by Hovey kept the Bearcat lead with the score at 25-23. Emporia went on an 8-0 run to gain the lead before Patterson capped it off with a layup and pulled the Bearcats within 4 (27-31). The scoring went both ways with Emporia holding a slim lead as the half would end with the Bearcats down 39-32.
Emporia opened the second half with a short 4-0 run before SBU was able to score with free throws from Kalehl Brown. A three pointer from Kalehl Brown and a layup by Hovey pulled the Bearcats within 2 points (41-39) with 16:06 left in the game. Strong defense by the Bearcats gave SBU the ball back and a Kalehl Brown 3 pointer from Dean put them back on top 42-41. The game was scoreless for the next few minutes until a free-throw by Hovey with 10:38 on the clock. Emporia tied it up but another free-throw by Hovey put the Bearcats back on top 44-43. Both teams played a tight game with shots from Oghide, Hovey, and Woodfall from SBU. The Hornets gained the lead but free throws from Hovey would bring the score to 53-51 with 4:53 left in the game. Emporia went on another short 5-0 run but free throws from Dean would cut them off and pull SBU within a single point (56-55). After free throws from the Hornets put SBU down, Patterson dished off to Kalehl Brown who scored on a layup keeping SBU within 1 (58-57). Emporia went on a 6-0 run before SBU scored on a layup by Kalund Brown bringing the score to 64-59. A foul by Emporia sent Hovey to the line where he made 1 of 2 with 0:25 left in the game. An Emporia turnover gave SBU the ball back, which Dean used to score a layup pulling SBU within 2 (64-62). Emporia hit free throws down the stretch as SBU fell 68-64.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by Logan Hovey who had 16 points with Kalehl Brown close behind with 14 points. As a team, SBU shot 51.1% from the field, 40.0% from behind the three-point line, and 71.4% from the free-throw line.
