Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The No. 13 Washburn Ichabod volleyball team improved to 23-5 on the year as it swept Lindenwood in three sets on Friday by the scores of 25-23, 25-13, 25-17. In addition to bettering their season total, the Ichabods pushed their conference mark to 13-2.

Washburn picked picked up its third-straight victory thanks in part to an efficient attack as it out hit Lindenwood (11-15, 5-9 MIAA) .299 to .158. Defensively, the Ichabods were stingy as they held the Lions to sub .100-hitting in the final set.

Sarah Vicory led the attack for Washburn as she tallied a pair of team-bests with 10 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. Vicory also had four blocks on the night.
Leanna Willer and
Megan Pedersen followed with eight kills apiece, while
Taylor Selk and
Makayla Maxwell combined for 12 kills.
Alyssa Carney anchored the WU defense registering a match-best 20 digs.

In what proved to be the closest set of the night, the opening frame featured seven lead changes and 14 ties. After Washburn took an early 2-0 lead before the sides traded 4-0 spurts to push the score to 6-4. Possession then bounced back-and-forth as neither led by more than three.

Late into the first set Washburn had a 21-19 lead until Lindenwood went on a 4-1 run to overtake control making it 23-22. The advantage quickly evaporated as
Natalie Bates, who finished with 22 assists, set up Vicory to level the score at 23. The door was then slammed shut as back-to-back kills from Pedersen helped the Ichabods win the set and take a 1-0 match advantage.  Â

Washburn then took a commanding 2-0 match as it posted an impressive .485 hitting percentage with 19 kills off 33 attack attempts. With the score knotted at four, WU took control with a 5-0 run and never looked back. The Ichabods soon pushed the margin to double-digit behind a 7-1 run making the score 13-5. Lindenwood tried to close the gap but the balanced WU effort was too much as eventually won 25-13.

After a see-saw start to the third set, the Ichabods moved past LWU for the final time of the night with 4-0 spurt to make it 6-4. After trimming the led to two, WU put the match out of reach as a result of a 7-0 run to make it 19-10. Lindenwood tried to rally late but the effort was not enough as Maxwell registered the final two points for the Ichabods to secure the set point and to complete the sweep.

Washburn will close out its road schedule for the season when it faces Central Missouri on Saturday at 3 p.m.
