Ichabods return home to face RiverHawks on Wednesday

  Opening Tip
•    The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up the home slate this week with two games starting with Northeastern State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. followed by Central Oklahoma on Saturday.
•   The Ichabods (14-9, 10-8 MIAA) defeated Lindenwood 59-57 on Feb. 13 sweeping the regular season series with the Lions.
•   The RiverHawks (7-15, 6-12 MIAA) are coming off 73-66 loss at home to Northwest Missouri.
•   The Ichabods lost the first meeting with the RiverHawks this season 75-65 on Jan. 7 in Tahlequah.
•   The RiverHawks are 0-10 in road games this season and 0-9 in MIAA road games.
•   The Ichabods trail in the all-time series with the RiverHawks 6-2.
•   The Ichabods enter the game in a tie for fifth in the MIAA standings with Fort Hays State. Northwest Missouri has clinched the MIAA regular season title and Lindenwood and Nebraska-Kearney are tied for second at 11-7. Missouri Southern is in fourth in the standings at 11-8. The top four teams in the final standings receive a bye to Kansas City, while teams five through eight will host a first round game on campus on March 1 at the higher seed hosting those teams who finished ninth through 12th in the standings.
•   Brady Skeens' broke the Ichabod single-season record with his 52nd and 53rd blocked shots at Lindenwood … his 2.3 blocks per game ranks first on the single season chart ahead of Dan Buie's 1.7 blocks per game (27 games) in 1995-96 … his 65 career blocked shots is eighth on the career chart and his 1.8 career blocks per game average is first …  Skeens' 53 blocks are a Ichabod sophomore class chart breaking Dan Buie's 45 set in 1995-96 season.
•   The 59 points scored in the win over Lindenwood was the fifth-lowest point total for the Ichabods in a win in school history.
•   The Ichabods have played in four overtime games this season going 2-2. Washburn is 33-34 all-time in overtime games. The Ichabod single season record for overtime games is five set during the 1994-95 and 2006-07 seasons.
•   In Washburn's 14 wins this season they are averaging 75.7 ppg while allowing 67.9 ppg … in the nine losses they are averaging 75.1 ppg while allowing 85.9 ppg.
•   In Washburn's 14 wins they are +9.2 in rebound margin, while in the losses they are -6.3 on the glass.

•   Randall Smith's 104 assists this season are fourth on the Ichabod sophomore class chart … Canfield's 183 assists during the 1993-94 season is the sophomore class record … Jerad Head recorded 107 ranking third on the chart.

 Last Time Out For The Ichabods
Washburn 59, Lindenwood 57 -- Feb. 13, 2016
 ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's basketball team gutted out a 59-57 win at Lindenwood on Saturday sweeping its second-straight season series in the process.
Washburn took the lead with 25 seconds left on a Randall Smith layup forcing a timeout by the Lions. A 3-point attempt by the Lions at the buzzer missed after an inbounds pass as the Ichabods improved to 14-9 and 10-8 in the MIAA.
The Ichabods would lead by as many as eight in the first half at 16-8 after a jumper by Christian Ulsaker who scored nine in the opening half. The Lions never led in the first half, but tied the score at 23 on a jumper before the break.
Washburn was 9 of 23 in the first half while the Lions were 8 of 24. Washburn was 2 of 6 from the 3-point line while the Lions were 1 of 9.
Ulsaker led the Ichabods with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Smith finished with 12. Skeens had nine points and six rebounds and recorded two blocks breaking the Ichabod single-season record giving him 53 on the season.
Cory Arentsen led the Lions with a game-high 33 points scoring 24 in the second half.
Washburn finished 25 of 48 from the field and 16 of 25 in the second half hitting 64 percent from the field.
The game featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes.   
 
 About Northeastern State
•    The RiverHawks are 7-15 and 6-12 in the MIAA coming off 73-66 loss to Northwest Missouri.

 Last meeting with Northeastern State
(Jan. 7, 2016) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The roadtrip to face Northeastern State continued to be a House of Horrors as the Ichabods fell to 0-3 all-time in Tahlequah as they fell 75-65 to the RiverHawks.
With 1:45 to go, Washburn cut the RiverHawk lead to 69-65 on a 3-pointer by Cameron Wiggins, who led the Ichabods with 20 points. After the RiverHawks hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:25 to play stretching the lead back to five at 70-65, the Ichabods missed on their next trip down the court and a foul sent the RiverHawks back to the line where they hit both going up six with 1:08 to play.
Washburn came up empty on its next trip with under a minute to play and would not get any closer as Northeastern State would go on for the 10-point win.
The Ichabods trailed 37-35 at the break after a 3-pointer at the buzzer put the RiverHawks on top heading into the locker room. The Ichabods led by as many as eight points in the first half and for the last time at 27-19 after a bucket by Javion Blake with 6:19 remaining. The RiverHawks then went on a 13-2 run taking a 32-29 lead.
In the second half with Washburn leading by six at 45-39, the Northeastern State responded with a 15-2 run over the next 4:45 to take a 54-47 lead with 10:25 to play as the Ichabods would not get any closer than three at 62-59 the rest of the game.
Following Wiggins' 20 points, Andy Wilson scored 10 off the bench. Brady Skeens scored seven with a team-high nine rebounds adding four blocks for the third-straight game. Randall Smith had nine points with four assists.
Trey Mohair led the RiverHawks with 21 points.
Washburn was outrebounded 54 to 39 as the RiverHawks entered the game with an even rebound margin.
The Ichabods (9-4, 5-3 MIAA) finished the game shooting 19 of 53 for a 36 percent clip going 8 of 28 in the second half while the RiverHawks (3-9, 2-6 MIAA) finished 23 of 68 overall for a 34 percent average. The Ichabods were 23 of 37 from the free throw line while NSU was 22 of 32 from the charity stripe.   

 Last time out for Northeastern State
(Feb. 13, 2016) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team lost 73-66 to No. 23 Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon inside the NSU Event Center.
 The RiverHawks (7-15, 6-12 MIAA) dropped back into 13th in the MIAA standings and are now on the outside looking in for a playoff spot with four games remaining in the regular season. The Bearcats (19-5, 16-3 MIAA) improved their lead in the conference to four games over the team sitting in second.
 Sophomore guard Montre' Williams led the green and white with 14 points off the bench. Senior guards Killven Samuel and Trey Mohair added 13 and 12 points, respectively, while junior forward Javon Wallace chipped in 10.
 Northeastern State shot 43.1 percent (22-for-51) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-for-22) from behind the 3-point line and 83.3 percent (15-for-18) at the free-throw line. Northwest Missouri State shot 46.8 percent (22-for-47) overall, 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from distance and 72 percent (18-for-25) at the line.
 Zach Schneider led all scorers with 23 points, while Justin Pitts added 18 and Conner Crooker chipped in 12.
 The RiverHawks led in assists (18-9), blocks (4-1), steals (6-0), points in the paint (20-12), points off turnovers (15-11), fast-break points (10-0), bench points (47-15), and fewer turnovers (10-11). NWMSU led in rebounding (31-28) and second-chance points (13-6).
