ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Washburn women's junior varsity basketball team lost its season opener Wednesday, falling to Cowley County Community College, 70-54.

After a first rough half shooting the ball, the Ichabods made 12 of 23 field goal attempts in the second half, for a 52.2 percent clip from the final two quarters. Still, turnovers hampered the Ichabods, as the Tigers saw a 28-22 lead eventually open up to a 16-point victory.

Sydney Paialii led the Ichabods with 14 points, shooting 4-9 on 3 pointers. Hayley Thompson was the other Ichabod to land in double figures with 13 points on 6-12 shooting.

Jordan Lenherr also had an impressive outing, scoring nine points on 4-6 shooting and adding an Ichabod-leading eight rebounds.
