Men's Junior Varsity Clipped by Redlands in Season Opener

GREAT BEND, Kan. -- The men's junior varsity basketball team kicked off its season Friday with a high scoring affair, falling to Redlands Community College 98-88.

The Ichabods grabbed an astounding 25 offensive rebounds in the game, but turned the ball over 19 times and allowed the Cougars to get to the free throw line 30 times, making 19 of them.

Tommy Ekart led the Ichabods in scoring with 18, one of five players for Washburn to score in double figures. JoBreil Powell had a stellar first game for the Ichabods, scoring 16 points and adding eight rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.

Eric Harms was a big contributor to the Ichabods' offensive rebounding total, grabbing seven of them as part of his team-leading 13 boards.

The Ichabods will take to the court again Saturday, as they take on Highland Community College. The game will be a 3 p.m. as part of the Barton County Community College-hosted Classic in Great Bend, Kan.
