TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn women's tennis team opened its home slate with a 8-1 win over William Woods Wednesday afternoon at the Topeka Country Club.
The Ichabods set the bar early after getting out to a 2-1 lead by the conclusion of doubles play. 
Madeline Hill and 
Jacqueline Engelbrecht put the Ichabods on the board after posting a convincing 8-2 win over Karyna Sagalai and Paige Smith for their fourth-consecutive win together. After getting out to an early lead Alba Salinas and Zlata Shuraeva outlasted 
MaKenna Gonzales and 
Logan Morrissey, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. 
Madison Lysaught and 
Ally Burr broke the tie with a 9-7 win over Felicia Cesar and Julia Mulder to put Washburn up 2-1.
Hill would once again start things off for Washburn by downing Sagalai in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Hill now sits at 21-2 on the season.
Logan Morrissey handed Salinas a 6-3, 7-5 loss in straight sets to put Washburn up 4-1 before Engelbrecht would clinch the match for Washburn with a 7-6, 6-1 ousting of Shuraeva.
MaKenna Gonzales came back after dropping the first set to defeat Cesar 1-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Madison Lysaught led Mulder 5-4 before the match was called to put Washburn up 7-1
Ally Burr posted a come-from-behind 6-1, 6-7, 10-3 win over Anna Braack to close out the match for Washburn
The Ichabods will stay home for a midday meeting with Newman University on Saturday, March 4 with first serve slated for noon.
