TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn women's tennis were dealt its first loss of the season at home Wednesday afternoon at the Topeka Country Club by Nebraska-Kearney in a 5-4 decision.
The Ichabods trailed early after dropping two of three doubles points.
Ally Burr and
Madison Lysaught were blanked at No. 3 doubles.
Logan Morrissey and
MaKenna Gonzales dropped a close one at No. 2 doubles in a 9-8 decision.
Madeline Hill and
Jacqueline Engelbrecht paired up for their 19
th doubles win of the season in a 9-8 decision.
Trailing 2-1 the Ichabods headed into singles action.
Madeline Hill made easy work of a Nebraska-Kearney netter with a 6-2, 6-2 win; notching her 24
th singles win of the season.
Logan Morrissey fought her way to a three-set win over Amanda Alvarez 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Jacqueline Engelbrecht was defeated in straight sets at No. 2 singles in a 7-5, 7-6 decision.
Nebraska-Kearney took a 4-3 lead when
MaKenna Gonzales dropped her match at No. 4 singles in a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Ally Burr picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in straight sets at No. 6 singles over Sthefani Rodriguez.
Nebraska-Kearney netter Camryn Parnell clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 doubles over
Madison Lysaught.
The Ichabods fall to 6-3 on the season and will prepare for a Saturday morning match against conference foe Fort Hays State on March 18.
