11/30/2021 11:24:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – In a low scoring game, The Washburn women's JV basketball team lost to Kansas City Kansas Community College, 50-37. The offense never got it going shooting 25 percent from the field.

There was little action for most of the first quarter. The Blue Devils got on the board first, however the score would stay 2-0 for over five minutes. In the seventh minute, Washburn's Chloe Carter broke the shutout to tie the game up at two apiece. KCKCC then went on a 7-0 run to end the first up 9-2.

The run continued into the second as they made it nine straight points. Lakyn Schieferecke ended it with the fist Ichabod basket in almost seven minutes. Carter, on an offensive rebound, scored on a layup to make the game 13-6. Neither team would put points on the board for the next three and a half minutes. The drought was ended when Raegan Wells made a huge block which led to a Schieferecke layup. After a Blue Devils three-pointer, Wells create her own basket to make the score 18-10. From there Schieferecke herself went on a 7-point run including a shot in the final second to draw within one at the half.

In two minutes of the third quarter there was more action than the first half. From the jump, the Ichabods' turned the ball over and allowed two field goals. Maddy Hutley got a steal of her own and assisted Carter in the paint for an easy layup. KCKCC ended up with an 8-2 run before Hutley hit one from deep. Unfortunately, it was immediately responded with a Blue Devils three. After four and a half minutes of the Ichabods not scoring, Schieferecke hits a jump shot with 1:17 remaining in the quarter. KCKCC led 40-26 heading into the final quarter.

Hutley grabbed a bucket to start the scoring in the quarter. Both teams traded buckets until the very end. Washburn was unable to get any closer.

Schieferecke led the team with 15 points on 7-for-22 from the field and two steals. Carter had a double-double with 10 points and ten rebounds and two steals. Hutley led in steals with three.

Ichabods are home for their final three games of the season. Starting with Neosho Community College on Thursday, December 2 at 6 p.m.
