Washburn loses second half lead to Highland CC, falls 78-68.

HIGHLAND, Kan. -- The Ichabods jumped out to a first half lead but were unable to hold on for all 40 minutes, falling 78-68 to Highland Community College on Thursday night.  

Washburn got off to a fast start offensively, scoring 24 points in the first quarter to lead 24-19 while shooting 9-14 from the floor. In the second quarter both teams' offenses were quieted, as each side scored 15 giving the Ichabods a five-point lead at halftime.  

The Scotties offense recovered in the third quarter as they knocked in 23 points. Five 3-pointers in the period ignited the run as seven different Highland players scored a bucket.  

Washburn hung around in the fourth quarter but were unable to make a comeback. The Scotties were able to grow the lead out more before winning 78-68.  

Raegan Wells led all scorers in the game, finishing with 29 points on 10-20 shooting with 15 free throw attempts for the Ichabods. Bailey Collar scored 16 points on 5-11 shooting with a team best four assists. Chloe Carter led Washburn in rebounding, finishing with 10, she recorded a double-double with 10 points as well.  

Highland was led in scoring by Nilah Lynch who had 14 points in the game. Ten players scored at least four points for the Scotties in a balanced effort for the home win.  

Three point shooting and rebounding were the difference in the game, which Highland having advantaged in both categories. The Scotties pulled down 45 rebounds compared to the Ichabods' 29, and sunk 12 triples compared to only six for Washburn.  

The Ichabods return home next Monday, Nov. 14 to take on Haskell Indian Nations University beginning at 5:30.
