Washburn's comeback comes up short against Fort Scott CC

FORT SCOTT, Kan. -- Washburn men's JV could not complete a comeback victory against Fort Scott Community College, coming up just short in an 84-80 loss.  

After falling behind 52-36 at halftime the Ichabods outscored the Greyhounds 44-32 in the second half but ran out of time down the stretch to lose a second straight game to open the season.  

Washhburn started the game cold, shooting just under 37% as a team in the first half, but responded by shooting nearly 55% in the second. On the other end, they held Fort Scott to 41% from the floor in the second half after allowing them to shoot 53% in the first 20 minutes.  

Cameron Heiman and Isaiah Braymen each scored 19 points to lead Washburn in scoring. Braymen finished with 12 rebounds on 5-9 shooting, knocking down seven of eight free throw attempts.  

The Ichabods came away with 13 steals as a team, led by Josh Jamsion, who also had 12 points in the game. Kevin Eman also had four steals to go along with 16 points on 5-9 shooting.  

Lamarcus Penigar and Cooper Smith paced the Greyhouds with 15 points each. Baker Beal added 13 points for Fort Scott and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.  

Washburn was narrowly outrebounded 40 to 36, and the Greyhounds dished out 19 assists to the Ichabods 17.  

Washburn's next game will be its first in Lee Arena, taking on Highland Community College to complete a three day stretch of games.
