INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field teams will have a school-record eight individuals entered in nine events representing the Ichabods at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor National Championships May 27-31 in Allendale, Mich. hosted by Grand Valley State University. On the men's side,
Romain Henry (110m hurdles),
Josh Hopkins (long jump),
Connor Last (long jump) and
Braden Rose (discus) will be competing. The women's side will feature
Virgi Scardanzan (pole vault),
Rachael Mayberry (pole vault),
Isabella Hohl (100m and 200m) and
Taylor Gonzales (5000m) will be entered.
Josh Hopkins will be making his second NCAA Championship appearance this spring after finishing 12
th in the long jump during the indoor championships. Hopkins is the No. 1-seed entering the event after clearing 7.95m (26-01.00) at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Connor Last will be the third seed in the long jump after a mark of 7.75m (25-05.25) at the same event. Last finished second at the 2022 NCAA indoor Championships after placing 12
th at the outdoor NCAA Championships.
Romain Henry is making his third NCAA Outdoor appearance and his fourth NCAA Championship appearance competing in the 110m hurdles. This season he has the No. 5-ranked time entering the championships at 13.93 recorded at the MIAA Championships this season.
Braden Rose will be making his first NCAA Championship appearance with the discus this season. He is the No. 13-seed entering outdoor championships after recording a mark of 53.73m (176-03.00) at the MIAA Outdoor Championships on May 6.
Virgi Scardanzan is the No. 1 seed in the pole vault entering the outdoor championships. Scardanzan is making her fifth NCAA Championship appearance at Washburn and her second outdoor appearance. She has placed second two times (2021 indoor and 2021 outdoor) to go with a third-place finish at the 2022 indoor championships. Scardanzan set the top mark in the Division II ranks clearing 4.30m (14-01.25) at the Loper Twilight last weekend.
Making her school-best sixth NCAA championship meet is pole vaulter
Rachael Mayberry who has competed in four NCAA Indoor Championships with her second outdoor meet coming at nationals. Her mark of 4.05m (13-03.50) is the 14
th-best mark in the country this season.
Isabella Hohl will be competing in her second NCAA Championship and her first in the outdoor after finishing 12
th in the 2022 Indoor Championships in the 60m. Her time in the 100m is the 16
th-fastest time in the country this season. Hohl will also be competing in the 200m after breaking the school record in the 200m in a time of 23.95 at the MIAA Outdoor Championships. Hohl becomes the first Ichabod sprinter to participate in two events in the same NCAA Championship.
Taylor Gonzales is making her first NCAA appearance as an Ichabod in the 5000m run. Gonzales has the 21
st-best ranked time entering the championships after recording a school-record 16:35.00 at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this season. Her time is ranked first amongst MIAA schools 19 seconds ahead of the next fastest on the list.
