ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team moved up one spot in the final round of the Missouri Western Central Regional Preview finishing in fourth place overall and four shots of out second on the final day of the 54-hole event. The Ichabods will return to action hosting the Ichabod Invitational Oct. 21-22 at Topeka Country Club.
Blake Saffell moved up seven places in his final round recording four birdies and a bogey en route to a 3-under 68 after rounds of 72 and 70 for a 54-hole total of 210 finishing in a tie for seventh overall.
Marco Anderson finished in a tie for 18th overall with matching 1-over 72's in each round for a total of 216 moving up three places on the leaderboard.
Zach Vandervoort had the biggest move up the leaderboard on the final day climbing 17 places after firing a 1-over 72. He had rounds of 74 and 76 to finish in a tie for 40th with a final scorecard of 222.
Hayden Beck also finished in a tie for 40th after closing with a 3-over 74 in his final round after recording scores of 79 and 69 on the first day.
Quinn Earwood finished with a final round of 81 for a 54-hole score of 226 with rounds of 75 and 70.
Playing as an individual,
Lane Workman finished in a tie for 72nd with a scorecard of 75, 75 and 77 for a three-round total of 227.
Central Oklahoma won the event by 31 shots over Southern Arkansas and Missouri Western who tied for second with match team scores of 4-over. UCO's team score of 825 followed by SAU and MWSU's 856 and Washburn's team score of 860. Harding was fifth with a team score of 863 while Winona State and Central Missouri tied for sixth with a team score of 868.
The Griffons' Jeffery Johnston was 12-under winning the tournament followed by Bennett Baldwin (-9) and Jordan Wilson (-7) both of Central Oklahoma.
