FIRST PITCH
• The Washburn Ichabods will start the postseason as the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Championship Tournament starting on Thursday in Edmond, Okla., where they will face the No. 5-seeded Northwest Missouri Bearcats at 1:30 p.m.
• Washburn enters the postseason with a 36-14 overall and 17-9 in the MIAA after falling in a pair of games at Emporia State wrapping up the regular season on Monday.
• The top ten teams from the 2024 MIAA regular season advance to the Association's postseason championship for a four-day, nine-game, single-elimination tournament. The first pitch is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 at Central Oklahoma's Gerry Pinkston Stadium.
• The winner of the Washburn/Northwest Missouri game will face the winner of the top-seeded Rogers State/No. 8 Central Missouri vs No. 9 Missouri Southern winner. The Jennies and the Lions will play the first game of the tournament on May 1 with that winner advancing to face the Hillcats. The semifinals are scheduled for May 3 and the championship game is slated for noon on May 4.
• The Ichabods have won the last three games overall and moved their winning streak to six in a row in games played in Topeka after sweeping the Bearcats earlier this year winning 3-1 and 6-0 on March 29. Washburn leads the all-time series 61-37.
• The Washburn Ichabods have already secured their 19th season with at least 30 wins and their fourth under head coach
Brenda Holaday.
• Hitting the 30-win mark for the third-straight season is the longest streak since the Ichabods won at least 30 games in six-straight seasons from 2002-07.
• The Ichabods finished the 2023 season with a 37-16 record going 15-11 in MIAA play.
• Washburn was picked in the No. 4 spot in the MIAA preseason coaches poll trailing Central Oklahoma, Rogers State and Missouri Southern.
• The 2024 Washburn schedule features seven teams who reached their NCAA Regional, two more NCAA Super Regional teams, and two teams who reached the NCAA D2 Softball World Series … Ichabods open their home slate on Feb. 23 with the Washburn Invitational.

Brenda Holaday is in her eighth season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 251-146 overall record going 113-59 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to two MIAA Regular Season titles (2018, 2022) and NCAA Central Regional berths in those years as well, the fourth and fifth in school history. Holaday trails Lisa Carey as the all-time winningest coach by victories at 256.

• The Ichabods are ranked 12th in the nation with 95 doubles … Washburn is also ranked 10th in the nation in doubles per game (1.90), 41st in hits (397), 11th in earned run average (1.78) and third in shutouts (17).
• The Ichabods need four more doubles to tie the Washburn single season record of 99 set in 2022.

Rogers State • The Ichabods are 0-2 against Rogers State falling on May 7, 2022 in a 2-1 loss and the following day in the MIAA Championship game in a 4-2 loss in nine innings.
LAST TIME OUT
(April 29, 2024) - EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods fell 5-4 in the resumption of a halted game at Emporia State in eight innings as they wrapped up the regular season with a 36-14 record going 17-9 in the MIAA.
The game with ESU was resumed from the bottom of the sixth inning with the Hornets holding a 4-3 lead. Ichabod pitcher
Jaycee Ginter needed only six pitches to set the Hornets down. Leading off the top of the seventh,
Marrit Mead tied the score at 4-4 with a home run to left field. Again Ginter retired the Hornets in order in the bottom of the seventh sending the game to the eighth.
In the eighth,
Jaden LaBarge started the inning with a double and then moved to third on a sac bunt from
Erin Boles. After
Madi Moore drew a walk putting runners on first and second with one out, Moore was thrown out stealing second base and then LaBarge was cutdown at the plate ending the Ichabod threat.
The Hornets scored the go-ahead with two outs in the inning with a single ending the game with a 5-4 win.
Starting the game on Saturday, the Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and in the second inning, Boles drove in a run and then sac fly by Moore pushed Washburn's lead to 2-1.
In the third,
Autymn Schreiner's single scored LaBarge as the lead increased the lead to 3-1. The Hornets came back with three runs taking a 4-3 lead before the rains came.
LaBarge finished with three of Washburn's 10 hits in the game while Boles and Schreiner each had two. Ginter struck out six in the loss falling to 16-7 on the season.
