Ichabod men's golf team sits in 9th after first 18 holes of MSSU Fall Invite

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team is in ninth place after the opening round of the Missouri Southern Fall Preview. The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes, but due to rain in the area, it has been reduced to a 36-hole event with the final 18 holes to be played starting Tuesday morning at Shangri-La Resort.
 
Marco Anderson and Quinn Earwood lead the Ichabod top five with matching 1-over 73's. Anderson picked up birdies on holes Nos. 4 and 18 while Earwood had four birdies on the day coming at Nos. 7, 9, 11 and 14.
 
Hayden Beck is in 18th place with a 2-over round of 72. He tallied birdies on the first and 16th holes of the day.
 
Blake Saffell is in 59th overall including back-to-back-to-back birdies on holes Nos. 2, 3 and 4 finishing with a round of 78.
 
Zach Vandervoort is in 70th with an 8-over score of 80.
 
Playing as an individual, Lane Workman is in sixth place after a 1-under 71, three shots off the lead held by Jack Phillips from Southwestern Oklahoma State and Mathieu Zerwin from Northwestern Oklahoma State. Nine players came in under par in the first 18 holes.
 
The Ichabods as a team were 17-over with a team score of 305. Southwestern Oklahoma State has a four-shot lead over Arkansas Tech after opening with a day one total of 284. Arkansas Tech is at 288 followed by Missouri Western (291), Fort Hays State (292) and Friends (294).
