TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn women's track and field team opened the season at the Washburn Alumni Invitational, that was highlighted by an NCAA provisional mark, a meet record, and a wave of personal bests across sprints, jumps, and relays.
McKenzie Hayse led the way in the 60m dash, qualifying for the finals with a time of 7.56 in prelims before finishing 2nd in the finals at 7.54, hitting an NCAA provisional mark.
Lyric Reid also advanced to the finals, placing 7th in 7.72. The Ichabods showed depth in the event with
Maya Pattison (12th, 7.75),
Kamdyn Wedel (15th, 7.80),
Kyra Ray (17th, 7.84, PR),
Layla Lerus (27th, 7.95, PR), and
Kynleigh Chard (62nd, 8.30, PR).
Hayse continued her strong day in the 200m, winning the event in 24.32, just shy of the school record. Washburn dominated the top 10 with
Kereser Augustin (7th, 24.68, PR), Pattison (8th, 24.70, PR), Reid (9th, 24.98, PR), and
Isabella Kupka (10th, 25.09, PR).
Kamdyn Wedel (12th, 25.39, PR) and
Mellanie Neudinger (16th, 25.77, PR) added depth, while Lerus (28th, 26.03, PR) and Addison Webster (74th, 28.75, PR) rounded out the group.
The 400m was another standout event as
Kereser Augustin set a meet record, winning in 55.46 and earning an NCAA provisional mark. Kupka finished 3rd in 57.39 (PR), while
Kennedi Knowles (12th, 59.73, PR),
Natalie Hillebert (14th, 1:00.10, PR), and
Andria Williams (16th, 1:00.50, PR) all posted personal bests.
Ashtyn Collins added a time of 1:02.01 for 22nd. In the 600-yard run,
Ashley Heavner placed 13th in 1:30.51.
In the 4x400m relay, Collins, Heavner, Hillebert, and Knowles combined for a 6th-place finish in 4:01.53.
Washburn excelled in the field events as well. In the high jump,
Alex Hart cleared 1.71m (5-07.25) for 2nd and an NCAA provisional mark.
Molly Worley set a PR at 1.60m (5-03.00) for 3rd, while
Shaydin Myers (12th, 1.50m, PR) and Sheronika Simeon (14th, 1.50m) added strong efforts. In the long jump, Hayse placed 5th with a PR of 5.70m (18-08.50), followed by
Kyra Ray (6th, 5.54m, PR) and Neudinger (8th, 5.48m, PR).
In the pole vault,
Blair Brennan set a PR at 2.95m (9-08.00) for 11th.
At the Crimson and Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State
Reagan Housley cleared 3.60m (11-08.75).
