HAYS, Kan. -- Blake Saffell holds a one-shot lead and the Washburn Ichabod men's golf team sits in a tie for 5th place as a team after the first day of the FHSU Tiger Classic. Â
After the first round was pushed back to an afternoon start due to cold temperatures, the entire 36-hole day was suspended due to darkness with golfers in the middle of their second rounds. Play will continue from Smoky Hill Country Club on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the completion of the second round followed by the third and final round.Â
Saffell, who held at least a share of the lead for part of the day, finished his first round with a 1-under before rattling off three birdies in the first eight holes of his second round to sit at 4-under for the tournament.Â
Quinn Earwood sits in a tie for 22nd with a score of 3-over for the tournament. Earwood finished the first round with a 1-over 71, posting six birdies in the round.Â
Marco Anderson is tied for 40th at 5-over for the event. Anderson finished with a first-round 74 and is 1-over through seven holes in the second round.Â
In his return to the lineup, Hayden Beck sits in a tie for 59th with a total of 7-over. Beck made two birdies on his way to a first-round 75 and is 2-over through seven holes in the second round.Â
James Hill is in a tie for 81st place at 11-over. Hill posted a 76 in his first round, making birdies at the 3rd and 7th holes.Â
Playing as an individual, Zachary Haydamack sits in a tie for 14th place after opening with an even-par 70 in the first round. Haydamack posted only two bogeys, adding two birdies in the round.Â
As a team, Washburn remains tied for 5th with Colorado School of Mines. The Ichabods trail MIAA rivals Fort Hays State and Central Missouri by one stroke. Â
