Men's golf finishes FHSU Tiger Classic in tie for 8th

HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team finished in a three-way tie for 8th on a windy western Kansas afternoon, completing the FHSU Tiger Classic with a three-round team total of 884. The Ichabods return home to host the Firekeeper Open from Apr. 7-8 in Mayetta, Kan. 

Blake Saffell led the way for the Ichabods, taking 5th place at 3-over for the tournament after finishing his second round with a 67 and completing the third round with a 77. In his second round, Saffell made four birdies with only one bogey on the scorecard. 

Hayden Beck finished his first tournament of the spring in a tie for 47th place. Beck made birdie at the par-5, 551-yard 6th hole in both the second and third rounds. 

Quinn Earwood tied for 56th place in his return to the Ichabod lineup. Earwood totaled five birdies between the second and third rounds, finishing with scores of 76 and 79, respectively. 

Marco Anderson finished in a tie for 63rd after rounds of 77 and 76. Anderson made three birdies in the final round, all coming on par-4 holes. 

James Hill finished in a tie for 69th place, posting an 81 in his second round before making a nine-stroke improvement in the third round with a 72. Hill's third round was the lowest by a Washburn golfer on the day. 

Competing as an individual, Zachary Haydamack joined Anderson in a tie for 63rd. Haydamack finished with rounds of 76 and 81, making two birdies between the rounds. 

Washburn shared 8th place with Minnesota-Crookston and MIAA rival Northeastern State. Fifth-ranked Central Oklahoma took home the team title with a three-round score of 850.
