FIRST PITCH
• The Washburn Ichabods are in action for the last two of four remaining regular season games starting with No. 5-ranked Central Oklahoma on Friday in Topeka. Following the doubleheader with the Bronchos, the Ichabods will wrap up the regular season hosting Emporia State on April 26 on senior day.
• The Ichabods (29-18, 11-9 MIAA) split a pair of doubleheaders last weekend at Missouri Western and at Northwest Missouri.
• The No. 5-ranked Bronchos are 39-6 and 16-2 in the MIAA winning their last 12 games after sweeping a doubleheader with Southern Nazarene on April 15 winning 9-1 and 9-0 … UCO will also take on Central Missouri on April 17 before facing the Ichabods the following day.
• Leading up to the UCM game, the Bronchos have outscored their opponents 56-7 in the last six games including a 20-1 win over Fort Hays State on April 12.
• Washburn is coming off their sixth NCAA appearance in program history last season finishing the year with a 37-17 record placing fourth in the MIAA standings with a 17-9 record.
• The Washburn Ichabods have recorded 19 seasons with at least 30 wins with five coming under head coach Brenda Holaday.
• The Ichabods were tabbed No. 4 in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

Brenda Holaday is in her ninth season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 281-167 overall record going 134-72 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to two MIAA Regular Season titles (2018, 2022) and three NCAA Central Regional (2018, 2022, 2024). Holaday became Washburn's all-time winning coach with a 13-0 win over Illinois-Springfield on Feb. 8, 2025.

• The Ichabods lead the nation in the triple plays recording their second one of the season in Branson … the Ichabods are ninth in the nation in doubles with nine, which also leads the MIAA … Washburn is also 16th in the nation in walks and 18th in shutouts.

Sadie Walker is seventh in the nation in games started (25), ninth in appearances (34) and 32nd in shutouts (4) while also ranking 44th in strikeouts (128).

(April 12, 2025) MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with Northwest Missouri taking the opener 5-3 before falling in the second game 9-1.
Game 1 – WU 5, NWMSU 3
The Ichabods broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the third when
Ellington Hogle started the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single from
Makenzie Sais. After a single from
Alexis Tanguma that drove in Hogle,
Kaylee Wagner drove in Sais as the Ichabods went up 2-0.
In the fourth,
Kate Ediger doubled to right and
Dalaney Anderson singled driving in
Gracie Gallagher putting Washburn up 3-0. Tanguma drove in another two runs with a single scoring both Hogle and Anderson as Washburn took a 5-0 lead.
The Bearcats cut the lead to 5-2 on a triple in the fifth and added a solo run in the seventh but would get no closer.
Washburn outhit the Bearcats 10 to 6 led by Tanguma's four hits and Sais finished with two. Tanguma had 3 RBI for the Ichabods.
Sadie Walker improved to 14-7 on the season tossing 6 2/3 innings striking out eight.
Jenna Sprague recorded the final out with the bases-loaded for her fifth save of the season.
Game 2 – NWMSU 9, WU 1 (5 innings)
The Bearcats took advantage of two Ichabod errors in the second inning leading to four unearned runs as Northwest took a 4-0 lead. In the third, the Bearcats added two more runs to lead 7-0 after three complete.
In the fifth, the Ichabods got on the board ending the shutout on a
Kate Ediger sac fly that scored
Jaden LaBarge, but in the bottom of the fifth, the Bearcats added two more ending the game with the 9-1 win.
Washburn was limited to five hits in the game with five different Ichabods recording one hit. Boles and Anderson each recorded a double.
Tanguma took the loss in the circle scattering three hits and no earned runs.
