TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team wrapped up a busy week at the Kansas Relays and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. The team is scheduled to be in action at the Drake Relays and a return trip to Lawrence for the Rock Chalk Classic.
At the Beach Invitational in the invite pole vault event,
Matteo Madrassi finished fifth with a mark of 5.19m (17-00.25) breaking his own school record of 5.08m (16-08.00). He was the highest NCAA Division II finisher. His mark was the fifth-best in the NCAA D2 ranks this season. He finished seventh earlier in the week at the Pacific Coast Invitational and was the top-finishing NCAA Division II competitor taking seventh in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional mark of 4.98m (16-04.00).
Ross O'Brien was fourth in the 1500m Invite in a time of 3:54.46 as the top D2 finisher.
At Rock Chalk Park on the final day of the Kansas Relays,
Matthew Heckman was second in the high jump with a height of 2.06m (6-09.00) and
Jordan Dale was fourth at the same height.
Aaron Newcomer was eighth at a mark of 2.01m (6-07.00).
In the 400m hurdles,
Sam Baxter finished fifth in a time of 53.85 and
Jake Muller was seventh in a time of 55.00.
Zuri Glenn was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.95 (22-09.75) on his first jump and
Drew McGilton was 13
th at 6.60m (21-08.00).
Ian Suther placed 10
th in the javelin with a throw of 55.14m (180-11).
