Ichabod men's golf in 9th after first day of MIAA Championship

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team sits in 9th place at the MIAA Golf Championship after playing the first two rounds on Tuesday, posting team scores of 301 and 293 for a two-round total of 594. The Ichabods will finish up competition with the final round from Jefferson City Country Club on Wednesday. 

Coming off his individual title at the Firekeeper Open, Blake Saffell sits in a tie for 11th place at even par after rounds of 73 and 71, respectively. Saffell made four birdies in the first round, beginning and ending the round with birdies at the 1st and 18th holes. In the second round, the junior made eagle at the par-5, 551-yard 2nd hole on his way to a 1-under 71. 

Marco Anderson sits in a tie for 32nd place at 6-over after posting rounds of 78 and 72. After beginning his first round with a double bogey, Anderson recovered with a birdie at the par-5 2nd hole. The junior made three birdies in his even-par second round. 

Zachary Haydamack joined Anderson in a tie for 32nd place after rounds of 72 and 78. In the first round, the sophomore kept a clean front-nine scorecard, adding two birdies on his way to a 2-under 34. Haydamack added another birdie at the par-4, 360-yard 16th hole in his even-par first round. 

Quinn Earwood sits in a tie for 43rd at 8-over after firing rounds of 78 and 74. Earwood made three birdies in the second round, coming at the par-4 6th, par-3 11th, and the par-5 15th holes. 

Hayden Beck finished the day in a tie for 52nd place after rounds of 79 and 76. Beck made three consecutive birdies to close the front nine in the first round. 

Playing as an individual, Michael Matteucci sits in a tie for 47th with rounds of 79 and 74. In the second round, Matteucci recorded three birdies in a four-hole span on the front nine. 

After 36 holes of play, Washburn sits one stroke behind 8th-place Missouri Western. The Ichabods lead 10th-place Pittsburg State by three shots.
