JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team surged up the leaderboard in the final round of the MIAA Championship, moving up four spots to finish in a tie for 5th at Jefferson City Country Club on Wednesday. The Ichabods will head to St. Joseph, Mo. for the NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional from May 8-10.
Blake Saffell led the Ichabods on the individual leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 5th place after posting a 3-under 69 in the final round. Saffell made five birdies with only two bogeys on the day, making birdie on his final hole of the tournament at the par-4, 386-yard 9th hole.
Quinn Earwood made a third-round charge, moving up to a tie for 22nd after a career-low, 4-under 68. Earwood opened his round with back-to-back birdies after beginning on the 10th tee and picked up two more birdies on his way to a bogey-free round.
Zachary Haydamack finished in a tie for 40th after a final-round, 3-over 75. Haydamack notched a pair of birdies on the back nine, on the par-4 13th and par-3 17th holes.
Marco Anderson closed the tournament in a tie for 42nd after posting a 4-over 76. Anderson opened his day with a birdie at the par-4, 394-yard 10th hole, later adding two more birdies on the front nine.
Hayden Beck finished in 45th place after firing an even-par 72. Beck made two birdies in his round, coming on the par-4 1st and 16th holes.
Playing as an individual, Michael Matteucci finished in a tie for 29th place after posting a career-low, 2-under 70. Matteucci made three birdies in the round, including on both par-5s on the back nine, while recording only one bogey.
Washburn shared 5th place with Missouri Southern with team scores of 878 across the three rounds. The Ichabods posted a score of 284 in the final round, tying team champion Central Oklahoma for the lowest in the round.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Blake Saffell and Quinn Earwood were announced as members of the All-MIAA men's golf team for the 2024-25 season. Players earned points at four "designated events" during the season, with the top 15 finishers receiving All-MIAA recognition.
