No. 13 Ichabod men's track and field team gears up for MIAA meet at KU Rock Chalk Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The No. 13-ranked Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team put together a strong showing at the Rock Chalk Classic at Rock Chalk Park, highlighted by event wins, school records, and NCAA provisional marks.

Javier Lopez led the Ichabods in the sprints, placing 20th in the 100 meters (11.13) and 16th in the 200 meters (22.78), with teammates Emeka Ogbonna (17th, 22.96) and Jeremy Garcia (18th, 22.97) right behind him. In the 400 meters, Noah McCoy clocked a personal-best 51.86 to finish 20th, with Garcia (22nd, 52.47) and Deven Cristomos (23rd, 53.38 – PR) close behind.

Grady Buessing set a personal best to finish seventh in the 800 meters at 1:57.30, followed by Trent Zimbelman (9th, 1:58.15), Seth Motes (23rd, 2:05.67 – PR), and Ryan Rochford (24th, 2:08.62).

The Ichabods dominated the 1500 meters, with Paul Kamp finishing second in 4:01.82 and Sebastiaan Horselenberg fourth in 4:05.35. Cooper Griffin (7th, 4:14.97) and Logan Montgomery (8th, 4:23.71) also placed inside the top 10. In another heat, Jaemon Smith captured the win with a personal-best time of 4:06.97. Nick Petrella (3rd, 4:13.86) and Devin Trent (7th, 4:21.83) rounded out a strong showing.

In the high jump, Washburn went 1-2 as Alessandro Di Gregorio cleared 2.11 meters (6-11.00) to win the event, while Matthew Heckman followed closely with a 2.06-meter (6-09.00) mark. Both athletes secured NCAA provisional marks.

Matteo Madrassi made history in the pole vault, tying for second with a school-record clearance of 5.21 meters (17-01.00), also an NCAA provisional mark. Logan Schwab (7th, 4.76m), Mitchell Thompson (14th, 4.46m), and Bryce Schwerdtfeger and Colin Rausch (tied for 15th, 4.16m) added strong performances in a deep event.

In the long jump, Tauan Lyra placed fifth with a leap of 6.76 meters (22-02.25).

The Ichabods will start the MIAA Championships on Friday at Emporia State.
