EMPORIA, Kan -- Day two of the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships saw the men's team add critical points in the decathlon, 10,000 meters, and hammer throw, while also setting up potential scoring chances for Sunday's finals. Washburn enters the final day of action with 27 points sitting in fourth place overall.
Drew McGilton headlined the day with a complete performance in the decathlon, claiming the MIAA title with 6,576 points, earning 10 team points and All-MIAA honors. He became the fourth Ichabod individual champion at the MIAA Outdoor Championships. McGilton won the 100m (10.94) and had top-three finishes in the long jump (6.81m), 110m hurdles (871 points), and pole vault (4.07m). He rounded out the ten events with a consistent showing across the board, finishing no lower than eighth in most events.
Judah Bowell placed 8th overall with 5,723 points, contributing one team point, while
Bryce Schwerdtfeger finished 11th with 4,384.
Jaden Magana delivered big in the hammer, finishing second with a personal-best 59.19m for eight points, All-MIAA recognition, and a provisional qualifier. He also placed ninth in the discus at 44.56m.
In the 10,000 meters,
Donald Kibet scored five points with a fourth-place finish in 30:08.50, while
Tommy Roehl ran a personal best 30:35.04 to finish eighth and grab a point.
Aidan Junior also set a PR with a 16th-place 30:49.80.
Eddie Craig advanced to the 100m final by running 10.50 in prelims to place eighth. In the 400m prelims,
Tucker Groh finished 16th in 49.81. The 800m crew showed depth, with
Ross O'Brien (12th, 1:54.08),
Trent Zimbelman (17th, 1:54.78), and
Grady Buessing (20th, 1:55.40) all running personal bests.
Jake Muller and
Sam Baxter moved through to the 400m hurdles final with respective times of 53.78 and 53.91.
In the field events,
Tauan Lyra scored two points in the long jump with a seventh-place mark of 7.14m, a personal best and NCAA provisional performance.
Zuri Glenn finished 14th at 6.93m. In the throws,
Caden Rhamy was 14th in the discus and 18th in the hammer.
