MAYETTA, Kan. - The Washburn Women's Golf Team will host its first-ever home event on Monday, March 23rd & Tuesday, March 24th at Firekeeper Golf Course & Resort.
"Back home at Firekeeper after a week off. Hopefully, we feel fresh not having to travel, but we need to have our games ready after a small spring break away," said Washburn Head Coach
Ronnie McHenry. "A good list of teams, and we are capable of beating anyone, but have to go out and do it, and sometimes doing that on your home course adds pressure. They seem in good spirits and ready to go!"
The Firekeeper Open is the first-ever home event in Washburn Women's Golf history.
The Ichabods are coming in after a 5th-place finish two weeks ago at the Emerald Coast Collegiate, where they beat seven nationally ranked teams.
Washburn is ranked 8th in the Central region and 54th nationally.
Aneglina Borg-Malec finished tied for fourth after she shot back-to-back rounds at even par after a 1-over opening round. After her performance two weeks ago, Angelina moved herself up 100 spots in the national individual rankings to 160th.
Susana Granados Carrion is aiming for her fifth top-10 finish of the season, which would match her total from last year.
Raegan Petersen is coming off her best finish as an Ichabod; she tied for 19th at the Emerald Coast Collegiate, beating her previous best finish of 24th last season at the Konzem-Capra Invitational.
