EMPORIA, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team delivered a series of standout performances across the track and in the field at the ESU Relays, highlighted by multiple event titles, NCAA provisional marks, school records, and personal bests.
The Ichabod performance of the day belonged to Justin Forde in the triple jump. Forde won the event with a massive personal-best leap of 16.43 meters (53-11.00), breaking the school record by 10 inches and recording the No. 1 mark in the nation this season.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jake Muller captured the event title with a winning time of 52.81, earning an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
A major highlight of the meet came in the 400 meters, where Bryce Cochran topped the Washburn school record with a personal-best 48.42, placing ninth overall.
The sprint group was led by Ja'Laveyn January, who finished 11th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.57, pacing a deep field for the Hornets. John Mark Bishop followed closely in 14th (10.66), while Javier Lopez placed 19th (10.78). Crayton Rauch recorded a personal-best 10.92, finishing 23rd.
In the 200 meters, Lopez doubled back to earn a 13th-place finish in 22.09, leading a group that included Ogbonna (18th, 22.45) and Shadid (19th, 22.67).
Grady Buessing earned a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 1:54.79. Personal records were posted by Logan Montgomery (2:02.63), Seth Motes (2:03.91), Ryan Rochford (2:03.80), and Landon Stuke (2:12.28).
In the 1,500 meters, Kyle Wagoner recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:05.66, while Gunner Wagner placed 13th (4:16.35).
Cadan Gustavo posted a personal-best 15.46 in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 11th.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Cochran, Groh, Rauch, and Muller combined for a fifth-place finish in 3:19.41, closing out the meet on the track.
In the field, Matthew Heckman led the way in the high jump, placing third after clearing 1.99 meters (6-6.25). Aaron Newcomer followed in eighth at 1.94 meters (6-4.25).
The pole vault group was led by Logan Schwab, who placed third with a personal-best 5.07 meters (16-7.50), achieving an NCAA provisional mark. Adam Wooldridge and Eli Strawn tied for 11th at 4.62 meters (15-1.75).
In the hammer throw, Colin Heatherman placed seventh with a throw of 50.84 meters (166-9).
