TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's track and field athletes split competition sites over the weekend, turning in strong performances at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multis and the UCM Mule Relays, highlighted by multiple personal records, event victories, and an NCAA provisional mark.
Jo Meaker Classic & Multis
Washburn sprinters opened the meet with a standout showing in the 200 meters, as four Ichabods posted personal-best times.
Bryce Cochran led the group, finishing 26th with a PR of 21.62, while
Javier Lopez followed in 33rd at 21.94.
Tucker Groh crossed in 34th with a time of 21.95, and
Crayton Rauch added another PR, clocking 22.38 for a 50th-place finish.
In the middle distances,
Seth Motes recorded a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing 22nd with a time of 2:04.31.
The field events saw
Ransford Nti earn a top-10 finish in the triple jump, placing seventh with a mark of 14.55 meters.
Washburn also had a strong presence in the decathlon, as
Alex Michiels, who was eighth overall after five events with 3,428 points. Michiels posted consistent results across the opening day, including an 11th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.18), eighth in the long jump (6.72m), eighth in the shot put (11.11m), sixth in the high jump (1.82m), and 10th in the 400 meters (53.47).
UCM Mule Relays
At the UCM Mule Relays, the Ichabods enjoyed a highly productive Thursday on the track and in the field.
In the 800-meter invite,
Grady Buessing finished 11th with a time of 1:55.10.
The 1500 meters produced a wave of personal records for Washburn in the open section.
Kyle Wagoner led the way with a PR time of 4:05.59 for 12th place.
Lukas Mehl posted a personal best of 4:08.98, while
Gunner Wagner also ran a PR at 4:13.98.
Logan Montgomery finished in 4:17.96, with
Ryan Rochford rounding out the field in 4:26.91.
Washburn shone in the 1500-meter invite, placing four athletes among the top 14.
Sam Nesbitt earned a third-place finish at 3:52.79, while
Adrian Lehman ran a personal best of 3:57.66 to place eighth.
Shane Mullen finished 10th with a time of 3:58.10, and
Taylor Karcz followed in 14th, recording a PR of 3:59.92.
Distance runners delivered a marquee performance in the 5,000-meter invite, where the Ichabods went 1-2.
Donald Kibet captured the event title in 14:30.99, while
Tommy Roehl finished second at 14:46.97.
Ludovico Vaccari added an eighth-place finish with a time of 15:04.71.
In the field events,
Logan Schwab turned in one of the weekend's top performances, clearing 4.90 meters (16-0.75) in the pole vault to place second and earn an NCAA provisional qualifier.
Caden Caplinger and
Eli Strawn both cleared 4.60 meters (15-1.00), with Strawn marking a personal best.
Adam Wooldridge and Mackobe Merwin each recorded no height.
Throwers also made an impact, led by two personal records in the hammer throw.
Colin Heatherman finished 11th with a PR mark of 53.07 meters (174-2), while Josh Grimm recorded a personal best of 46.03 meters (151-0). In the javelin,
Ian Suther earned a seventh-place finish with a throw of 55.25 meters (181-3).
