After having the first two weeks of the season wiped out by weather the Ichabods had to wait until the 14th inning to get in a win as they defeated Drury 6-3 Friday afternoon at Drury in their season opener. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon to wrap up the series.
Washburn took advantage of two Drury errors in the top of the 14th inning and got RBI singles from
Cameron Kasel and
Luis Beltran Lopez III to score three runs.
Brett Sorensen, working seven innings of relief, retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.
Zach Engelken earned the opening-day start and went the first of nine scheduled innings. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Sorensen pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up eight hits and striking out out five.
Kasel was 3 for 7 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Tyler Blankenship was 3 for 5 with two walks.
The Ichabods took the lead in the top of the sixth when they scored on two Drury errors. The Panthers got those two runs back in the bottom of the inning before Kasel drove in
Mark Stoltz in the top of the seventh. Stoltz had reached on a double.
The Panthers (5-4) recorded five errors while Washburn committed just one. The Ichabods were out-hit 15-12.
