Season Statistics

The Ichabods lost an extra-inning pitchers' dual 2-0 in game one to Southwest Baptist but had an offensive explosion in the first inning of game two to give them an 8-4 win Friday evening at Falley Field. The win in the second game gave head coach Steve Anson his 700th at Washburn.

The Ichabods (3-5, 1-1 MIAA) and Bearcats (3-7, 1-1 MIAA) will continue their conference opening series with another doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. The games were moved back an hour from an original noon start time to allow cold and wet weather in the morning to pass.

Zach Engelken pitched eight scoreless innings and allowed just four hits until the Bearcats broke through with two runs in the ninth inning for a 2-0 win in a game scheduled for seven innings.

The Ichabods had seven hits but only once advanced a runner as far as third when Wes Joy singled in the fourth and then advanced to third on a single from Joe Hosey. Brian Gorges was 3 for 4 in the game and Tyler Blankenship had two hits and a walk.

The Bearcats got just four hits and struck out seven times the first 8 1/3 innings. With an out in the top of the ninth Brad Mountjoy doubled in the first run of the game and then another double later in the inning made the score 2-0.

Game 2
Box Score

After going nine innings without a run, the Ichabods exploded for six of them in game two to lead to an 8-4 win.

Gorges led off the game with his team-leading fourth home run and then five of the next six batters singled. The Ichabods batted through the order that inning and when Gorges came up to bat the second time he singled in another run. The Ichabods had six singles and one homer in the inning.

They got another run in the third when Tyler Blankenship led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch, one of five thrown by the Bearcats in the game. WU scored for the final time in the sixth inning when Dane Simoneau also scored on a wild pitch.

Danny Cook pitched all but one out as he got his first win of the year. He allowed four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
