April 27, 2010 - KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods knocked off Rockhurst 7-5 in the final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday night at Loyola Park. The Ichabods will close out the regular season this weekend at Northwest Missouri. The series is slated to start with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Hawks (25-23) got on the board first with a single run in the second inning. Sean Carter led off with a double for RU and later scored on a Washburn throwing error.
The Ichabods (20-20) took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Matt Raabe had an RBI single and later scored on a
Wes Joy RBI groundout.
Andy Petz scored on a wild pitch as well. Rockhurst got one run back in the bottom of the inning, but Washburn responded with two more runs in the fifth.
Thomas Holiday had an RBI single and later scored on a single by Petz.
The teams traded single runs in the seventh inning to make the score 6-3.
John Hermsen scored on a passed ball for the Ichabods and Carter had an RBI single for the Hawks.
Washburn added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when
Travis Cruz scored on a double play. The Hawks added two runs in the ninth, but the Ichabod's held on for the 7-5 win.
Dane Simoneau finished 3-for-5 with two doubles for the Ichabods.

Mitchell Carver allowed two runs on four hits in four innings, but didn't factor in the decision.
Mitchell List (1-0) earned the win in relief after pitching one scoreless inning.
Ben Baker (1-2) took the loss for Rockhurst after allowing three runs on four hits in four innings.
About Northwest Missouri
The Bearcats enter the final week of the regular season at 17-31 overall and 15-19 in MIAA play. Northwest Missouri lost 3-of-4 to Nebraska-Omaha last weekend in Omaha. NWMSU salvaged the final game of the series 7-4 on Sunday. The Bearcats are currently in eighth place in the MIAA, one game behind Missouri Western and Missouri Southern for the sixth and final spot in the MIAA postseason tournament.
Jon Henne, Jr. leads NWMSU at the plate with a .286 average. He has a team-high 13 doubles on the season. Matt Stice is second on the squad hitting .278, but he leads the team with six home runs and is second with 24 RBI. Landinn Echardt leads NWMSU with 26 RBI, he has six doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Jayson Huett is 3-3 with a team-low 4.30 ERA in 22 appearances. Chris Green has a team-leading seven wins and sports a 4.97 ERA in 13 appearances, including 11 starts. Bearcat pitchers have surrendered 166 extra-base hits on the season, including 98 doubles and 57 home runs. The team ERA sits at an even 7.00. Opponents are batting .309 against Northwest Missouri pitchers this season, while Bearcat hitters have a combined .241 average.
Series History
Northwest Missouri leads the all-time series 44-43, but Washburn has won five straight games against the Bearcats.
Washburn swept last season's four-game series by a combined score of 22-5. It was the Ichabods' first four-game sweep in an MIAA series since sweeping Southwest Baptist in 2006.
Washburn won the final game of the 2008 series after the Bearcats won the first three.
