Ichabod Season Preview
OutlookWashburn returns seven players and two redshirts from last season's squad that went 16-16 and finished eighth in the MIAA standings.
The lone senior,
Christian Ulsaker, is the leading returning scorer at 6.7 points per game while adding 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in eight starts playing in all 28 games.

Washburn will open with an exhibition game at Oklahoma on Nov. 6 before opening the regular season against Augustana in Las Vegas, Nev. The Ichabods will return home on Nov. 16 to face Tabor in the home opener before taking on Rockhurst on Nov. 21 and Peru State on Nov. 24 then wrapping up non-conference play with Saint Mary on Nov. 28.
The Ichabods will open MIAA play with a roadtrip to Fort Hays State on Dec. 2 before facing Nebraska-Kearney on Dec. 5.
The Ichabods' lone conference contest at home in December is against Southwest Baptist on Dec. 12. Overall four of their first five MIAA games are on the road starting the 2015-16 season.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell in their only exhibition game of the season on the road to No. 8 Oklahoma 112-62 in the Lloyd Noble Center. The Ichabods will open the regular season at NCAA No. 1 ranked Augustana in Las Vegas.
In the first half the Ichabods trailed 53-39 at the break after a 3-pointer by the Sooners at the buzzer wrapped up a 6-0 run to end the half. Washburn led 14-13 with 15:24 and by three early in the first half.
Javion Blake scored 11 first half points hitting 4 of 6 shots including 3 of 3 from behind the 3-point arch.
Jeremy Lickteig and
Christian Ulsaker each had seven. Washburn shot 44 percent in the first half hitting 12 of 27 shots while the Sooners were 17 of 35 hitting 49 percent of their shots. OU also had a 24 to 17 rebounding advantage in the first half.
In the second half the Sooners put 59 points while holding the Ichabods to 23 points in the win. Washburn was limited to 9 of 24 shooting in the second half. The Sooners also forced the Ichabods into 24 turnovers in the game leading to 47 points for the Sooners in the win.
Washburn was led by Blake's 15 points and
Christian Ulsaker scored 10 along with
Brady Skeens.
The Sooners were led by Buddy Hield's 20 points leading six Oklahoma players in double figures.
Overall the Sooners shot 49 percent from the field and hit 15 of 28 3-pointers in the game. Washburn finished 21 of 51 for a 41 percent average. The Sooners also had a 52 to 27 advantage on the glass as well.

Last meeting with Augustana(Nov. 14, 2014) SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Washburn Ichabods went cold from the field during a stretch midway through the first half and could not recover in an 87-83 loss to Augustana.
The Ichabods led by five at 21-16 in the first half on a jumper by
Andy Wilson with 9:41 to play in the first half, but the Vikings would go on a 21-6 run over the next 6:11 as Augustana took a 37-27 lead going 8 of 9 from the field during the run. Washburn went cold from the field as the Ichabods were 1 of 8 during the Viking run.
Washburn was 13 of 30 from the field in the opening half hitting 3 of 5 3-pointers while the Vikings shot 16 of 28 from the field including a scorching 8 of 13 from 3-point raange taking a 48 to 39 advantage in the break.
In the second half the Ichabods trimmed the lead back to four at 66-62 with 9:16 to play using a 5 of 7 stretch during the run as
Christian Ulsaker scored 9 points during run.
The Vikings stretched their lead out to seven at 69-62 to play with 7:24 to play and then stretch it out to nine at 71-62 before a 3-pointer by
Prince Samuels trimmed the lead back to six with 6:46 to play.
The Vikings pushed the lead back up to 11 with under four minutes before the Ichabods cut the lead back down to five with 1:06 to play after a 3-pointer by North prior to fouling out a second later.
The Vikings would hit a pair of free throws with 65 seconds left stretching the lead back to seven at 80-73. Washburn's
Kevin House hit a layup with 47 seconds to play pulled the Ichabods back within five.
An Ichabod foul put the Vikings back on the line with 41 seconds to play as Augustana hit both free throws going back up by seven and the Ichabods would get no closer than four the rest of the way in the four-point loss.
The Ichabods held the Vikings without a field goal over the final 4:03 of the game going 9 of 10 from the free throw line down the stretch in the win.
North led four players in double figures with 18 points adding six rebounds. Key scored 14 and Samuels and
Christian Ulsaker each scored 13. Ulsaker finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Casey Schilling led four Vikings in double figures with 23 points adding 10 rebounds.
Washburn finished 30 of 60 from the field and 8 of 18 from the 3-point line. Overall the Ichabods were 15 of 27 from the free throw line.
The Vikings were 29 of 58 overall and 9 of 25 from the 3-point line. The Vikings were 1 of 12 in the second half from behind the arch. From the free throw line Augustana was 20 of 29 overall and 12 of 18 in the half.
Last time out for Augustana(Nov. 6, 2015) IOWA CITY, Iowa – Daniel Jansen hit a jumper as time expired to lift No. 1 Augustana men's basketball to a 76-74 exhibition win over the University of Iowa in front of 12,874 fans on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Vikings got the ball with 28 seconds left in the game and called a timeout with 11 seconds left on the clock to set up the eventual game-winning shot.
Augustana got the ball into the hands of Jansen, a 6-foot-9 240-pound native of Orange City, Iowa, who hit a jumper over his former AAU teammate Adam Woodbury to give the Vikings a 76-74 win over the Hawkeyes.
Augustana led by as much as 15 in the second half before the Hawkeyes put on some pressure on the defense end and got within two on a jumper by Jarrod Uthoff with 5:09 to play. The Vikings were able to keep the lead until Peter Jok nailed a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to tie the game at 74.
Augustana had a chance to extend the lead before the Jok 3-pointer but the Hawkeyes forced a turnover and eventually tied the game. The Vikings brought the ball up the court to hold for the last shot before calling a timeout with 11 seconds left. Jansen got the ball on the left wing and worked his way into some separation and dropped in a floater with the right hand to send the Vikings to victory over the Hawkeyes on their home floor.
Jansen finished the game with 19 points and four rebounds despite playing in foul trouble most of the night. He was called for two early in the game and made the game-winning shot after playing the final 4:42 with four fouls.
Casey Schilling had a huge game for the Vikings as well in 37 minutes of play. Schilling recorded a double-double leading the Vikings with 20 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two blocks.
Adam Beyer was solid on both of the courts as well finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds, including eight on the defensive boards. Jordan Spencer added six points, five assists and five rebounds while Zach Huisken had a big night off the bench picking up seven points, five rebounds and three assists.
Jok finished with a game-high 21 points for the Hawkeyes hitting 7 of 18 shots from the field, including three 3-pointers. Mike Gesell added 14 points and nine assists while Jarrod Uthoff finished with 10 points on 5 of 12 shooting.
Iowa jumped out to an 8-0 lead early in the game as the Vikings started cold from the field, missing their first 12 shots of the contest. The Hawkeyes extended their lead to 12-2 when Peter Jok hit a basket on the fastbreak after a Viking turnover.
Augustana answered with a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-12 lead with 10:30 remaining in the first half. Jok tied the game at 15 with a 3-pointer at the 9:34 mark of the first half but the Vikings regained the lead at 18-15 after a 3-pointer by Schilling and never lost it for the remainder of the half.
Augustana hit five 3-pointers in the final eight minutes and led by as much as 11 before taking a 40-34 lead into the locker room.
After a slow start, Augustana shot 39.5 percent from the field hitting 15 of 38, including 6 of 13 from behind the arc. Schilling led the Vikings with 15 points and six rebounds through 20 minutes of play. Jansen and Zach Huisken each had seven points in the first half.
The Hawkeyes were led by Jok's 14 points in the first half. Dale Jones added eight points off the bench on 3 of 5 shooting, including 2 of 3 from behind the arc.
Augustana came out strong in the second half building a 14-point lead three minutes into the period when Beyer scored on a layup to push the Vikings' lead to 54-40.
Beyer would later give the Vikings a 15-point lead at 61-46 with just under 15 minutes to play. The Hawkeyes answered with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to nine at 63-54 before slowly chipping away at the Vikings' lead.
The Hawkeyes used a 16-5 run over an eight minute stretch of the second half to get within two, 66-64, on a jumper by Uthoff.
Augustana answered by scoring on two straight possessions after a Hawkeye turnover but were unable to push the lead larger than six in the final five minutes of the contest.
The Vikings maintained the lead late until the two late 3-pointers by Iowa which would give Augustana the ball and a chance to win on the final shot of the game.
